New Replacement for AR 2ax woofer (old version)

That PE GRS looks ideal according to reviews. Some have used it for that exact purpose and raved. For the low cost why not try it? AR2ax's were my first good speakers in the 60's bought w/ hard earned newspaper delivery profits 🙂

I'm replacing woofers in some AR 2ax speakers, and I'm noticing 10" speakers won't fit! The cutout for the speaker is 9 1/2", and there's a recess around that that is 11". I purchased a couple of the GRS 10" replacements, and they were way too small. My AR's are the old type with cloth surrounds. I know it's an old thread, but maybe someone can offer some guidance! Thanks.

In what way will they not fit? Is it that the recess is too large?

Have you checked out the dimensions of the drivers recommended in post #3?

The Monacor unit requires a cutout of 9.4" in diameter and has a frame diameter of 10.1".

The Peerless unit requires a cutout of 9" in diameter and has a frame diameter of 10.4".

The GRS unit requires a cutout diameter of 9.25" and has a frame diameter of 10"

P.S.Would be nice to know your country of location so that suitable suppliers may be sourced.

Maybe look at the specs using metric measurements. 11.0 inches is 27.94 cm. 10.5 inches is 26.67 cm. 11.5 inches is 29.21 cm and so on. I have some SB29NRX75-6 woofers. These are woofers only though, they don't do justice to the mid and upper bass like a purposely designed mid-woofer would but they might fit.

the "29" is the nominal diameter in cm (290 mm) which is about 11.42 inches.
