Hello fellow enthusiast.
More than 30 years ago I built a Daline transmission line speaker using the following drivers , KEF B110 woofer , KEF T15 mid and a COLES 4001g tweeter. A relative of mine was using it for the last 15 years or so and I have since gotten them back. I find the sound to be dark and not resolute and was thinking of trying some new capacitors in this 3-way crossover. I am not sure if any of these are electrolytics at all and was wondering if any one here can give me some information. The caps all seem to be from the same manufacturer (Erie ?).
Also if anyone can provide me with the construction details of the enclosures including dimensions
Thanks!

I have a PDF of Wireless World, November 1974 and May 1975. Send an MP.
A french version :
Principe de la ligne acoustique (J.Mahul)
L'enceinte Daline -2- (J.Mahul)
At the time, I built two pairs
I listened one of them some fifteen years later.
Exactly like you, I find the sound to be dark and not resolute.
They don't appear to be electrolytic. Unless they are bulging or leaking it's unlikely changing them will make any difference.
I too built a pair of Daline loudspeakers but using the Peerless K010DT instead of the T15 that became obsolete. My wife deemed them too large and ugly and so they were broken up and replaced by a pair of Zaph SR71s.
I remember they were quite inefficient and needed a good amplifier with a decent amount of power to make them sing. Their midrange quality was really good, bass extended but not really punchy, coupled with a smooth and polite treble. They are unusual in that they were designed to work best close to a wall while many speakers need to be placed away from room boundaries.
Early versions were criticised for lacking treble and I have attached a scan from a Badger Sound Services catalogue from the 80s describing a modification. It might help you.
You will probably have already seen the original pdf of the Daline on the web http://www.tech-diy.com/Loudspeakers/Daline/Daline.pdf
Also another modification

Finally as an alternative if your cabinets are still good

I would like to thank everyone for responding to my thread. I am learning a lot about these speakers. This kit was given to me by a family member who acquired it back in the mid 70's. Now here is the thing. The crossover he provided is very different from the one in the original build document. As you can see there are 9 capacitors (polyester type, all values are 2.2uf ),on this crossover and I am not sure if this is correct at all. The only reference to a "model" number is on the back PCB4 . Could this have been an upgrade? I may also mention that my family member had more than one kit at the time , one using a b139 , b110 and t27 , so could there have been a mix up? In any case I would like to thank Richard10 for showing me the modification and I believe I will construct the one in his reply.

Glad I could be of help. This modified circuit was the version I had. The crossover board you have looks similar to mine. It used three 2.2uf caps in parallel to make up the 6.8uf values. That would account for the nine 2.2uf caps.
That crossover allows for three units, including a Low Frequency driver so I suspect that it was indeed designed for a B139, B110 & T27 - I have a feeling that it might have come from Wilmslow Audio.<snip> I may also mention that my family member had more than one kit at the time , one using a b139 , b110 and t27 , so could there have been a mix up? <snip>
What ended up happening to this project?

The inductors look like Falcon's, so I'd guess the board is from them too.
Some years late I'm afraid:
The original B110, T15, Coles 4001G crossover design was found to give a slightly low treble balance, a revised crossover circuit was published in the Hi Fi News to correct this. I think I have it if required.

Hi Radfordman..it's not too late.. the rebuild project is still on hold and I somehow think its will a retirement project. In any case I would be more than happy if you could provide me the the revised crossover schematic. Thank you in advance.

Your email address would be helpful, "a retirement project" I have quite a few of those still to do, and I been retired for years!
