Kenwood KA-88

I have an old Kenwood KA-88 amplifier...
It works fine...I just wanted to know the specifications of it? I can't find them anywhere...i even went to the kenwood site..

And I wanted to know if there's any way I can modify it for better

Dividing the power consumption

Dividing the power consumption by two, you will have an idea off the greatest power the amplifier will produce...only one idea.
This power will be in the lower impedance it can works, and this is written outside.
Some new amplifiers can go to 70 percent efficiency... 30 percent off heat and 70 percent of power.

I will be, maybe, trying to say something you already know very well...but i do not know you to measure your knowledge, this way;

200 watts consumption will be something around 100 watts audio, 50 watts each channel in 4 ohms.... a little bit more than a 25 watts rams each channel in 8 ohms speakers.

If 70 percent you can calculate because is too much easy.

I will find more informs...i know i have something alike kenwood 80, will search it for you.

I have schematics off some models

All them rated lower power than they really are capable to produce.
They are rated at very low distortion.... this way a 35 unit will put twice this power in the speakers.
But dividing consumption will give good results.... 45 percent audio only...maybe a lot of lamps and other consumption circuits.
I have in my hands:
Kenwood KA-32
Kenwood KA-35
kenwood KA-89
Kenwood KA-100
Kenwood KA-400
Kenwood KA-910

If you want some of them i can send schematics directly to you mail.

They are underrated all them.... your model may give 40 plus 40 RMS/4 ohms, and maybe 30 plus 20 watts rms/8 ohms or something alike.... it will be rated at 20 plus 20 and the consumption will be 100 watts.

I have owned and used my KA-88 since 1985 and still have the original manual for it. At the top of my head head it's a 100 WPC, class A amp resp 20 -20Khz at 0.01 THD (I might be wrong about the THD figure).

I hope this helps.

Can you please tell me if you bought your Kenwood as a set. I only have the KA-88 Amplifier left and am looking for the speakers that came with all the components. I bought mine in 1989. Amp, stereo with radio, cassette deck, record player & stand up floor speakers. I have a 5 CD changer hooked up to the Amp but need new speakers. Have been looking all around but a little worried about buying site unseen and getting shipped on used equipment. Can anyone here also recommend a reputable seller for vintage used stereo equipment?? Thank you, Connie
