As the title suggest I am looking to replace the Vifa P13WH-00-08 drivers that are currently being used in the studio. Ive put great amounts of effort into searching around in different shops and forums for these exact ones, but with no luck. My coworker has grown quite a relationship with these drivers over the years so it would surely float my boat if anyone here is willing to share the knowledge they may have about close to identical drivers
Hi,
You will have great difficulty finding a driver that matches
The Vifa's midrange balance and treble rolloff, particularly
the latter. Its a driver designed for its response to be
included in the x/o, making substitution very difficult.
The Tangband W5-704D is the nearest I can come up with,
which is a great budget driver, but not a really great driver,
but top of tree stuff in terms of bang for buck.

Hellsound.de recommends the Seas CA15RLY:
Vifa Tiefmittel-/Tieftöner
Note the basket of the Seas is 146 mm, that's 6 mm wider than the Vifa.
I consider the Wavecor WF138WA04 (proposal of peterbrorsson) and the Monacor SPH-145HQ to be good candidates as well.

Hi Svein
If you are prepared to spend a bit of money, then look at the AudioTechnology (also known as Skaaning) units. These might probably be the only units that could fill the place of the Vifas. They have standard drivers, but can also build units to your specs.
Their two standard 5" units are:
Flexunits 5 H 52 15 06 SD
C-Quenze 15 H 52 06 13 SD
Enjoy,
Deon

Hi Svein
Speakerbits in Australia sell a Peerless P13WH 00 08 BASS/MID which I think would be a straight swap for the Vifa units. I bought a pair from them a couple of years ago and the ts parameters measured exactly the same as some Vifa P13WH-00-08 drivers I have. You might want to check with them that they are still the same.
Regards
Robert

I got some from a batch of newly manufactured drivers from
www.falconacoustics.co.uk
a couple of years ago, they aren't listed on their site at the moment but drop them a line they are very helpful.

You may want to look at Scan Speak 15W8434G00 (or even 15W8424G00) as has a similar basket to the P13 with with a different diameter and thicker flange. Driver construction is very similar but with different cone material. Not sure if it's assembled in the same DST factory in Denmark (prior to Tymphany takeover), but Scan Speak have been making some of the old Vifa drivers like the P17.
This driver is supposed to be a suitable replacement for the PL14 (according to Madisound) and IIRC, the PL14 was generally used as a replacement for the P13.
The 15W8434G00 can work with minimal crossover changes and the on axis peak at roll off is not an issue, especially if used a bit off axis. I've modelled it on the 2-way ref D27/P13 speaker and only small component changes are required.
Wether it sounds similar to the P13 is a different story but overall behaviour is good.

Perhaps a Morel woofer?
Hello,
I don't believe the P13 is in production or available anymore. Perhaps a Morel woofer would be suitable, however I have no experience with it. It looks reasonably well behaved at the upper end. This version claims to have a copper sleeve on its pole for low distortion:
Morel TiCW 634Nd Titanium Series Hybrid Cu 6" Woofer 4 Ohm | 297-104
Without the sleeve is a bit cheaper:
Morel TiW 638Nd Titanium Series Hybrid 6" Woofer 8 Ohm | 297-103

Hi Rune
Do you still have the units that Svein asked for, Vifa P13WH-00-08, or similier? I need two of them as well. My Snell B-minor is missing the midrange elements.
best regards
Arne

I don't know where you're located Arne but if Rune no longer has them, these guys have 5 units available:
VIFA P13WH-00-08 - AudioXcel
Last time I ordered from them was more than 10 years ago and shipped within Spain, don't know if they'll ship elsewhere and for how much but you can always ask.
Cheers,
Cabirio

Hi Cabirio
Thank you for Your information. I will try to get the elements from them.
regards
Arne
They are back in production again and have been for a while so new replacements should be available everywhere
Anyone have a couple P13's laying around? I'm looking for 4 to complete a set of Ariel speakers.

Not matched But I may have 4 off spare for the right dollars. Postage from Australia won't be cheap and neither will insurance.
Feel free to PM me with an offer.

Sorry but what do you mean by 'off spare'? I can look up quotes if you give me a city and postcode.
Check the surrounds and/or be prepared to replace them. The surrounds of those units are prone to degradation in time, as is the case with P17's and several SEAS-units from those days. Replacing them is not that hard, reproducing the exact specifications though will be a challenge.Anyone have a couple P13's laying around? I'm looking for 4 to complete a set of Ariel speakers.
