Hi All, I just got a Luxman A-2003 tube crossover and know nothing about it. I can't find very much about it on the web. It was a kit that did not sell very well as far as I can tell. Cheers.
Is it a Luxkit? I have a bunch of Luxman/Luxkit brochures stashed around here somewhere. Most they probably will have is a few specs and possibly crossover freqs. I picked these up in Japan (Okinawa actually) back in the 80s, and yes they are in Japanese. I'll look around if you are interested.

Craig
That would be great Craig. It does not say "Luxkit" on it but the lit I've found so far (which is not much) has pix just like this one. On the front face plate it does say "customed by Luxman" so it might be factory. I don't know.
There were several Luxkit versions of the factory made Luxman. I built a Luxkit A3034 which was actually a Luxman CL34. I also have a CL32 which also had a kit version, A3032. You can usually tell by the workmanship inside unless it was built by someone well versed in assembly. I'll see what I can find, don't remember seeing a crossover but never really paid much attention because I've never had a use for one. Have you been on the Luxman Yahoo Group forum? I know it's rough trying to find Luxman info, if I hadn't been where I've been I would know far less. What was cool about their line of kits was not only was there audio kits but test equipment kits too, Japanese Heathkit! Still regret not getting more whilst there.
Craig
Craig
Yep, I sent a message to the Yahoo forum asking to joint but I've gotten no response so I assumed it is not active. The workingship on this piece is factory level. I'd be surprised if it was assembled by an individual.
Some of those Yahoo Groups seem take a while, especially if the person in charge is gone. Be patient.
djn,
I went thru all of my Luxman stuff and no crossover to be found. All of my lit. dates from 81-88, so either it's before '81 (probably) or after '88, sorry.
Just looked on Audiogon and it's from 1973.

RE the LUXMAN 2003 tube X-OVER :
They MADE 2 versions, (factory built & kit ) and 2 models ( 3 way #2003, and a 2 way # 2002 from 1975- 1978 ? I was fortunate to buy a factory fresh 3 way unit in 1978 --AND THEY ARE RARER THAN A HOUNDS TOOTH !
Luxman later produced a S.S. version, loaded and crammed to the gills.... me no likie, as impossible to upgrade or even service.. like todays cars ... besides NOTHING beats the maxed tube set up IMO...
Of course there is the CLASSIC Marantz 2 way tube xover ( 2 chassis with seperate power supplies no less ) smart -- and they command respect and BIG $$$ also--- a real fine 2 way, but are JUST to Limited for my 4 way tri-amp BIG system -) ditto ....that also goes for the ARC 2 and 3 way TUBE units, as they have level controls on the rear, a real hassle, and dont have slide out adjustable X-over cards ( a snap with Luxman ) and I WONT waste my ears listening to any S.S. types, ( Accuphase, Pioneer,...) as for me, HAVING all the control and options for ANY x-over points, levels, etc YOU WANT= LUXMAN 2003 XOVER is IT- cause it has it all for ya !
In my opinion, the LUXMAN all tube ( 8 x 12AU7 ) 3 way/ 2way/ & mono sub Crossover --- is the SINGLE most important component in a SERIOUS audio system-

LUXMAN TUBE CROSSOVER ALERT / WARNING--
=( fire up the iron and get a cold one )
MY EARLIER BLOG mentioned the " negatives" with this splendid LUXMAN TUBE 3-way crossover (model #2003)- being the cheapo tin plated removable capacitor cards- having POOR and troublesome connection -- often failing -- and the need to keep them cleaned and checked periodically -- as they would simply fail to work-- fail to high pass and low pass filter !!!!--- WELL for NEW YEARS EVE..... i had finally " HAD IT " with these inferior cheap tin plate block connectors, and was unwilling to trust gold plate replacements as the " cure" and decided to ' hard wire ' the cap cards in place--------------oh what a difference--------oh who knew ??--- turns out the ' MOLEX" block connectors are NOTORIOUS failures ( and were the source of many similiar electrical problems found in the 1970's ....used in mixing boards and automobiles electrics-- !!!! ==they are sonic DEATH to your LUXMAN = Remove and either hard wire or replace with premium gold plated block connectors===== but remove them ---- ( my tech engineer friend mentioned that the molex connectors were known to have killed the Detroit auto industry --being plaugged with electrical failures ---they are despised in the industry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DOWN-SIDE --- yes it will require many hours ( 4-6 hrs ) to carefully remove the 8 molex block connectors - and either replace or hard wire ( as i did )- but the Luxman offers +/- 5/8 octave user adjustment for ' fine tunning' -- so having the exact perfect freq cards is not a problem-- U can shift up or down quite a bit to get the perfect blend/balance dialed - in.
MOD- I removed all 8 molex block connectors -from PC board- then, using the original Luxman removable capacitor cards, installed 4 # 16 SOLID copper lead wires thru the molex connectors - leaving a 1/4" lead wire protruding -- re-insert the orig cap card--THRU THE DESOLDERED PCB-- and solder it directly to the PC board-- viola --
the AFTER ???-- The image is SOLID - the ' punch ' dynamics way improved- the micro detail vastly improved--- lyrics that were blurred or masked are ' there ' RIGHT THERE ! --- the ' slam' factor and punch are FELT !!!-- = dynamics huge-- NO COMPARISON PERIOD--- HUGE do it --- god i wish i had done this 30 years ago when i bought the luxman---- it has always bothered me -- the Achillies heal of the luxman--the MOLEX block connectors --- get rid of em ASAP and enjoy what you paid for !
cheers

BTW-- PICKED UP THE TAD 1201 12" GRAPHIC MIDS----FANTASTIC--- ULTRa neutral--- best midrange ever--- replaced the JBL 2202 alnico 12" mids--- no comparison--- they REQUIRE more power @ 16 ohm / and less efficient BUT --gezzzz louezz -- these are just what the doctor ordered-- ( my 4 way tri-amp system is detailed above in earlier blogs above here )

hi everyone ! i'm in need of a little help right now and i'm hoping someone can help me... k... i just bought a luxman a-2003 tube crossover and i have no idea how to either hook it up or set it up. right now, i have a pair of klipsch rf-7ii horn speakers hooked up to an onkyo receiver (htrc-370) that i'm using as a preamp for 2.1-channel. (it's awesome becuase i can switch from 2.1 channel to 7.1 channel depending on if i'm watching a movie or listening to music) from the onkyo i have an audio research vt-50 powering my horns and a yamaha m-85 powering my mains. (passive biamped) now, i have an active tube crossover in the mail (lux a-2003) and i'm wondering how to set this up....(i know i have to bi-pass my speaker's internal crossovers) i also have an audio research sp-9 preamp sitting in the closet, and a vintage (50+years) old mono theater amp that's very clean and powerful (from what i've been told by the electronics guy i had "look at it"...) i'm really hoping to somehow put this into my system... but, i'm really wondering how to set up my new a-2003 crossover....can anyone help ? thanx !
hey ! i hope this thread isn't over yet !.....i just sent messages to yube dog and dgn...i'm hoping they're still around !....anyway, i just bought a lux 2003 and i have no idea how it works...so, if anyone out there can help i really would appreciate it !.. thanx ! kevin (an old ironworker that's totally electronically reterded !)

Dear TUBE DOG, I just got hold of The Original LUXMAN A2003 Crossover Circuit, and I got no Technical Knowledge, I took the Manuel to a Friend TECHNICIAN who worked for LUXMAN from The Early Seventies till The Early Eighties, He stated that he has done lots of work on The LUXMAN's Tube POWER AMPS and on The Integrated amps, But never Saw The A2003 Active Circuit in The Past, He stated that he also worked on HARMON KARDON AMPS + JBL + ALTEC LANSING Tube amps, He said to leave The Circuit so he can study it , and Also Stated that He does not Like The PLUG IN CROSSOVER CARDs. . He advised me that he will build The Crossover for me, With more Better Quality Caps and Metal Film Resisters, and prefer to Make a Single Card PCB which will be around 8.5 Inches x 7.00 Inches and Prefer Using a 2 MM PCB Board with at Least 2 OZ Copper Tracings. And Can Set the Crossover at 500HZ Low Pass to 5000 Khz, He will work out The Prices on ALL The Components , AND get back to me within the next few weeks, He also stated that it wont be cheap, and to expect to spend at least $2000 on All Good Quality parts, he prefers getting most of the Parts from germany, And The USA + From Holland. and will get good quality RUSSIAN TUBES. I am waiting for the results.

Luxman 3Way A2003 Active Crossover. I own this unit . I need The Wiring Diagram for The Variable Low Channel Switches . Your help will be appreciated
Hi, I just got a 100V A2003 but without the manual. Any gentlemen here willing to share your copy of manual? Very much appreciated.
I have the manual but I'm 3600 kms away working. If you still need it in a few months let me know. It is a lot to copy...
Yes I need the manual, appreciate in advance. I am putting together a 3 way system and planning to use the 2003.
Hello Tube Dog. You seam to know the most about this Luxman 2002/2003. I have a few questions I hope you can help me with. Have you any literature you will share or sell to me? Right now what I'd really like to know is,,, at crossover point, is it Butterworth (3db down at crossover point) or LR (6db down a crossover point). 1st order is always Butterworth (3db down) so am confused. I need to use 6db down 2nd order at crossover point for my woofer, and 3db down 1st order at crossover point for my full range driver. Such a simple but important piece of information. You said above or below, that you needed 16 capacitors for your 2003. It seems to me you'd need 12. My 2002 won't arrive here for me for two more weeks and want to start shopping for PIO capacitors. I'll be really grateful for a reply. The best, RonLUXMAN 2003 TUBE 3 way X-over
