Hi!
I have also noticed that new excel 🙂
Seas says that soon enclosure and crossover recommendations will be given on their webpage. I wonder what the xover will look like.
Some time ago i have tried the H0487 MP14RE/XF. Quite interesting from speaker-builder's-learning-curve point of view 🙂
The biggest issue of seas coaxes is the tweeter dome loading by the curve of the woofer membrane. And not-so-high quality of the domes themselves.
Looks like the dome in the new excel is the same as in H1333-08/06 T18RE/XFCTV2. At least i haven't noticed anything that would state otherwise....
regards

This driver is now official. An oem driver from Lyon ;-) was existed since a long time. It is not the same than SEAS because it's a 8 ohms impedance and it's a 6.5".

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
The cheaper Seas Prestige coaxial seems to have a much better tweeter response than this new Excel.
I do not know what kind of tweeter system C16N001/F has. It might be pretty similar to prestige line coaxials.
Jerome, your speakers look very nice 🙂

Looks like that Seas has produced coaxial drivers with Excel line technology for a while.

They have had coaxial Seas 8" in their speakers and at least 6moons have liked their speakers.

consider the SPL measurement is 15 degrees off-axis

On-axis performance looks pretty terrible. Looks like this driver is only a good choice if you will never be listening directly in front of the speaker. It's almost as though they just plopped a tweeter in the middle of an Excel driver and expected it to work right.
For CAD$370, this driver's frequency response should be regarded as completely unacceptable. I'll stick with buying the woofer and tweeter separately, and dealing with the phase alignment by electrical and/or mechanical means.

DSP time alignment might fix that otherwise you could be at a crossover null. I’m very curious about these kind of drivers because of my recent listening to Genelec monitors. Would love a diy Genelec type option
