True, but I figured maybe he needed the amp more than I did?
After all, I brought home the Super Mini, the Zons Of Zenductor and the Metronomes.... and I had the bridged F4s just waiting for me... Perhaps I was just not destined to have that amp.
....
Ratz! Who am I kidding? I blew it.... Oh well....

Yes.... the other amps are all keeping me happy. The Zons of Zenductor are making beautiful sounds in my home office. They are making very good music.
Then the SIT is still there... the Aleph 2s are on the AN, the bridged F4s on the Maggies. And there's more... so amp wise, I gotta say the Sony was a want, not a need - not to say that the cornucopia of amps is a need.
But you know, if you know, if you're gonna stop being retired and go back to work, well, at least there's got to be a reason:
I work for my audio toys....
And no, I don't blow my money on commercial products, even as doing so opens me up to the dangers of paying attention to the likes of ZM.
( The Iron Pres are awesome...) ;-)
There are still eight amps that I would like ( not in any order ):
(1) 100 wpc SIT ( ZM's Biggvs Dickvs - for sure not a sissy )
(2) F5T v3
(3) Sony VFET ( or Sony TA8650 or TA-E7B with TA-N7B )
(4) Nakamichi SR-4A, or P7 Mk I.
(5) XA252 MOSFET... likely this is gonna be the replacement for the problematic XA252SIT.
(6) 38 wpc SIT... I think I can build this with a Sissy, an F4 and some power resistors (got all the parts, not the time).
(7) Conrad Johnson Premier One ( I have a solid state MF2100 ).
(8) Audio Research VT100 ( I already have a D70-II ).
Naturally I 'd love a pair of XA60.8 or XA100.8.... but that's beyond the budget and if would force me to make a dedicated investment.. .and then what fun would it be to be stuck to one amp?
Life is fun.... see you at next year's auction. Maybe I'll bring some NAD monitor stuff that's on the shelf. Great stuff, but I don't use it.

Hey everyone,
Here are some more videos. These are the zoom recordings from Burning Amp 2024. Much better powerpoint images, somewhat easier to hear voices though you won't be able to hear the questions very well. I could probably fix all of that but I also can't really commit more time. But please let me know if anything is wrong with them, I haven't checked them in minute detail.
Enjoy:

Mark Johnson
Nelson Pass
Scott Hinson

These look interesting and I have not been able to find any threads on these. I seem to remember that it was supposed to be part of the 2024 Burning Amp gathering this year. did you build these at BA 2024?I made a project out of refinishing my 2024 Speaker Camp Noob Cubes. They turned out okay.
It might be a spelling error impeding the search. The maker is Scott Hinson. Here is the thread where he describes them.
He has published a PDF about them...

Hi - curious if there will be a 2025 event, or still too early. Thanks!
It's absolutely being planned, yes.
Although there is nothing on the books yet, traditionally we aim to have it the weekend before, or the weekend after, San Francisco Fleet Week. But there's lots of moving pieces, and it's always subject to availability and 10 other things, so don't buy airline tickets yet.
For broad planning purposes, it's going to be late September or sometime in October, as it's freaking gorgeous in the bay those months. 🙂

Wonderful! Unless I have a conflict I hope to join. I also know some Bay Area audio enthusiasts that might be interested.
Oh, don't need to twist my arm - if I am make it I would love to attend. Also trying to see if I can bring some audio friends.
I'm gassing up the truck.... hmm.... I got some really tasty Parasound Z stuff. VERY HARD to find... the AC power and the mini racks. plus the equalizers.
Then, there's some Teac Reference and the NAD Monitor Pre/Tuner and amps.
I just don't use them...
How about a couple of LD players and the Sony SL1000HF with the flying erase heads and the editing deck controller?

Email me.I knew I should have bid on that amp...
Email me.
I did... nelson at pass labs I think it is?
Thanks.
There is no way to send him a PM via the forums.
Anyhow, as it turns out, I did get an N channel VFET amp. I took Jim's advice and when another one came up for sale I did not hesitate and bought it within an hour. Paypal F&F is fast, DIYaudio is awesome.
It's an N channel, not the P channel that Jim provided for the BAF24 auction. I had it for four weeks running the Metronomes ( the ones I did buy at the auction) and it sounds quite nice. I does a really good soundstage, the bass is a little bit soft (*)... but the midrange is definitely good. I played mostly R&B while I was working in my office and I few times, gotta tell ya, I did get up and boogie. These amps "groove" nicely.
The main speakers/amp running wideband and a pair of little woofers (Dayton Audio MKSX4), crossover (Rolls SX21) and the Parasound Zamp driving the bottom end just a little bit, well, it was like my little disco.
Get up and boogie...
It's also a rather low gain amp. I'm driving it with a CJ ET3SE preamp which swings 20Vrms. So it drives it quite well. Very low noise. I don't know how it will run with a more "normal" preamp. I guess I ought to try it one of these days. By way of comparison, right now I got an F4 with the CJ and it drives it very well, a little more gain on the preamp, again very low noise. With the F5 that I had before, the preamp's volume was set a lot lower.
Now I wonder... do the N and P amps sound different?
Is there an upgrade to the power supply?
Anyhow, I did email Nelson. Pretty much what I told you guys here. Except now he has my real email address ( and full name... )... so now I'm really hosed.
(*) The Metronomes don't have much low end bass either. I didn't try other speakers.
