The Photography and Camera Thread

Hi Viet, I had the Fuji 645/wide, the Bronica 645, the Mamiya 7II, some TLR 6x6 (Yashica, Rolleiflex) and some SLR (Bronica ETRS-i, Contax 645, f.e.) and all are great. I would recommend the Fuji and - if possible - even more the "Texas-Leica" Mamiya 7II.
But again, all this cameras are great.

Mamiya 7II is a Texas Leica. Love it. 🙂

I dusted off my Bronica S2A. Solid stainless steel body is a beast. Still has a roll of Fuji 400NPH film in it with only 5 exposures taken. Last shot maybe 23 years ago? Developing that roll would be a time warp.

I think many people world be surprised to know that Nikon made MF lenses. The Nikkor 75mm f/2.8 H is a great lens.

I have a bunch of 120 film cameras, and I found that my Bronica RF645 was a great choice for a travel camera. It's not too bulky and takes great pictures. The 6x4.5 format provides, for me, the optimal number of shots per roll.

However, on my last trip, I used a Google phone for photos. I need to start shooting black and white film again.

One of the great things about the 'Blad, Bronica, Mamiyaflex, Rollei MF cameras is the waist-level view finder. You get pix which just seem more pleasing to the eye.

I have a 6003 and 6008 Rolleis. Now working on a scheme to scan my 6x45 and 6x6 slides. My Minolta and Nikon scanners haven't been supported for 10 years or more.

This is a DIY forum. We should apply our skills.

I don’t have a macro lens (yet), but maybe my existing lens with an extension ring can work.

I had an AF Nikkor 105mm F/2.8 years ago. I swear that lens was the absolute sharpest lens I had. They are quite affordable used. For example:

I can probably make a film holder with a 3D printer and maybe make the light box as well.

I took the TTArtisan 25mm F/2 lens on the GX1 for a walk at the shopping center today and the lighting at dusk looks amazing. This lens has a surprisingly beautiful color rendition. Down-sampled from 16Mpix to fit on DIYA.

Shot taken with GX1 set at ISO800, F/2.8 and 1/50th sec:

This was earlier in the day, ISO200, F/5.6, 1/200th sec.

Here is a zoomed in section to show how sharp it is.

I finally got around to uploading a video I took using a drone for the first time. The original video is in 4K and very high res - not sure what it is when uploaded. You can see school of small bait fish moving out of the way as a shark was moving around. This was a Potensic drone - very easy to use and great images. This is about 83m altitude.

Camera GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) at its finest! 🙂

That’s an impressive list.

My grandfather had a Yashica Electro 35 that he took with him on trips and we watched beautiful color slide shows whenever he came back from his travels. As a little kid, I recall marveling at how the images were sharp and the color rendition was beautiful and popped. That was in the late 1970’s.

I would like to own a Leica M one day. There are some very good M clone lenses of rare historical lenses out now.

Yes, GAS 🙂 But in my defense, I got my first cam when I was 7, 49 years ago.
These cameras were spread over these many years... okay, I just try to sugarcoat the facts...

Slides are great with a good cam, and the Yashica is a good one 👍

My first camera was a Pentax ME Super with a 50mm F/2 - I got that when I was 14. Unfortunately, it was stolen a few years later - crime in Los Angeles area is rampant. My next camera was a Canon Aqua Snappy waterproof ruggedized camera. I got a lot of good photos of my backpacking, rafting, kayaking, and climbing adventures on that camera. It was indestructible- you can drop it on a concrete floor and it would survive. It was fixed focus but pictures always seem to be sharp. 35mm F/4.5 lens. I didn’t realize it at the time but now see that 35mm was the perfect adventure/ travel photography focal length.

I got a Brownie Six-20 when I was about the same age, but I have quite a few years on you.

I bought my Leica M2-R with the 35mm Summaron in 1971. Still have it.
