Your favorite 4” wide band driver?

Here’s mine based purely on a mix of measurements and subjective listening on axis in the mid field

Now take my selection with a grain of salt…..i‘m sadly a realist that understands a 4” driver is neither a woofer or tweeter and therefore response below 100hz or above 10k is not considered. YMMV

This is my favorite: https://www.eton-hifi.com/en/Arcosia/4-318.html

They are detailed without any hint of metal cone harshness. A step up from the MAOP 7.2 even. I built some in-wall speakers with the 4” Etons + Bliesma t36A-4 tweeter and an 8” woofer that are always get compliments even from non-audiophiles.

I haven’t heard them, but I bet the Purifi 4” aluminum cone would give the Etons a run for their money. But they don’t look nearly as cool ;-) https://ptt.purifi-audio.com/shop/ptt4-0x04-nac-03-ptt4-0x04-nac-03-1726

I am curious.
What is the intended use of the driver? Since you can't have full spectrum delivery, are you asking what the best midrange is?
Or what is the favourite small driver used for full spectrum compromise?
Full spectrum? I think it has to do with the enclosure and the accoutrements.
Lowthers can sound crappy, while Radio Shack can sound good.
The driver is but a starting point.
There isn't a best. There can't be a favourite. it's an immaterial question really.

It’s a ‘favorite’ Cal……you know…like colors, flavors, seasons……come on dude….I didn’t ask for the best. You get to choose what ‘wide band’ means to you. Like what folks do with the term ‘full range’.…..you get to decide how many octaves each might include.

I used the SS 10f for that project…..a little set of mix cubes for checking mono response for tone and phase issues. After a while though, on its own the fiberglass cone timbre didn’t make the cut.…..classic damped paper is still where it’s at IMO. The 10f is still a great midrange driver though.
