Burning Amp 2024!

Get an ensaimada filled with cabello de angel.... ( in Catala that's Ensaïmada amb cabell d'àngel). Majorca is known for the BIG ones.

In Barcelona they're only about 10 inches... 25cm... I was buying them next door to the supermarket. And yeah, the super had all kinds of delicious stuff. Jamon Iberico, sobreasada, fuet de Vic.... Gotta say the food around the Mediterranean is very good. Even if us Spaniards are about 800 years behind you Italians, I'd say we've done pretty good. ;-)

And yes, sobrasada is also EPIC in Majorca. Cook small pieces on top of bread slices under the broiler... with a nice chilled beer.

August... eh? Typical European... y'all take August off. There was the one year WE made the mistake of going there during August..

Enjoy it!

From experience, border agents do not have a sense of humor one bit.
A word of caution, because they can refuse you entry (send you home and ban you from entering forever more) and that would be a real shame, over a peice of meat. Capeesh my fine man?

In my travels I have brought back cheese and cured meat from different places. I have always declared them and none was ever confiscated. The restrictions are with fresh fruits, produce and meat which may contain living organisms that could spread in the USA.
Italian products, especially cured meats, I have been buying from Supermarket italy for many years.

Gianluca,
Your bringing meat/food into the US? Isn’t that a no-no?

ROTFLOL

So we walked through the passport checkpoint at LAX.

We had checked in two large bags... about 55 kilos in total

And we had two carryons, plus backpacks and I was carrying a.... shopping bag from El Corte Ingles full of sandwiches and God Know what.

So..

The US Immigration guy, an American Mexican guy, checked our passports and asked, in friendly manner..

"Are you carrying any food? Any of that delicious jamon serrano?"

I flatly answer, "No"

;-)

Now, the big Lladros were in the carry ons, you can imagine what was in the checked in bags ( hint, we left stuff behind... toiletries, underwear....

We had a feast that night and the next evening... We still have canned mariscos and morzillas, fuet, jamon iberico... ;-)

Hint... pork products from Western Europe are no longer verbotten into the US. But I didn't want to bother making a list that would look like your shopping list at Mercadona and the fine stores around our rented flat.

Eons ago, we'd get a couple of boxes a year from my grandmother... it was always a gamble whether or not they'd take out the chorizos and various fuets from the package.

Three events in our lives in the US that made it much better:

(1) Franco passing away
(2) Legalizing the imports of pork products.
(3) Being in SoCal and finding out La Espanola had opened shop near by.

I was just being sarcastic, of course. I would not want to risk being sent back but I agree they really lack any sense of humor or compassion, I am always treated as if I was some sort of criminal.

Anyway back on topic!

It would not be an issue... if they held you back at SFO, well, you could call us and we'd drive from Petaluma to take care of the "contraband" in situ.

Seen Sofia Loren's movie with La Mortadella?

Well, I'll say it again this year. Don't expect me to drive all the way to Petaluma. You can look at my projects here on the site, but don't expect to hear them any time soon.
What was the problem? As far as I know you have just kinda whined without ever stating the issue. It might be helpful to know if we want to rectify things. I thought the projects you bought were interesting, but c'est la vie.
