There was an incident in 2019, a doctor from India, attending a conference in London, collapsed at the venue, she was given CPR, and shifted to St. Barts, 3 stents were put, she died three days later...
To the OP... invest in Svetlana and Sovtek tubes if you can still find them. I myself have been buying a little bit of physical gold. If you buy from a jeweler as 24 carat then you can resell it without tax consequences. Gold bars are a different issue... but I like them as they are easier to store and the wife won't feel like showing them off!
With your small amounts of money, invest in physical things that you can resell without tax consequences. If you buy used High End audio don't use eBay. You might be surprised but the price of certain components has been going up nicely. If the US mid term elections slow down (or stop) the Crazy Commies in DC, we might see our 401Ks go back up... but for you, look at stuff that is hard to get ( Parasound z-racks, SiT transistors, Russkie Tubes -until the craziness stops- )....
Back to tubes... why Russkie tubes? I had my ARC D70 MkII retubed with a quad set of Svetlanas and a Sovtek, plus Electroharmonic low level stuff.... the thing sounds fantastic if only 60 watts! And they are extremely hard to come by. I think Bose must have bought out NATO. But those have a limited life time, unlike SiTs which are a limited item. I'd advice to re-sell those Svetlanas in 6 months.
The rest of the other posters on this thread, oh! bugger off! Politics suck. So long as I can run my Class A FET amps and my tubes, I'm happy. And being in the US, my high power usage components are protected by our Mr. Glocks, plus a few other well chosen companions.
The US health system is eons ahead of the UK and Canada.
One last comment.... whatever you might think of Putin... he has stopped the "beautiful Ukrainian women" spam. For that, I owe him my gratitude.

US should have kept all those Engineers for own use.I was at Southern Illinois University in 1979, when the hostage crisis happened. The School of Engineering was dominated by Iranian nationals, especially grad students. Many instructors were Iranians.
All Iranian nationals were deported immediately. There was a fleet of buses on campus the next day to take them to St. Louis where they were flown out of the country.
It was very disruptive. Classes without instructors, some without students. These people were my every day colleagues and they were all of a sudden gone. Most all were older than me, working on multiple degrees. They all wanted to go back to Iran and build a more modern country.
So all the propaganda Uncle Sam propagates about Iran goes in one ear and right out the other. Compared to what we were before 1980 the US of A is ridiculous.
Instead they went back to Iran, where I BET at least a few of those highly trained people helped design and build stuff like:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavar-373

"Bavar-373 is an Iranian long-range road-mobile surface-to-air missile system unveiled in August 2016.[3] Iran describes it as a competitor with the S-300 missile system. It is manufactured by the Iranian Defence Ministry in cooperation with unspecified local manufacturers and universities.[4]
After the Russian ban on exporting S-300 to Iran (which was lifted in 2015), Iran decided to develop a similar system domestically: "We have planned to build a long-range air defence missile system similar to S-300. By God's grace and by the Iranian engineers' efforts, we will reach self-sufficiency in this regard."
According to Janes international: "Bavar-373 displayed on 21 August is clearly a unique Iranian system that appears to reflect extensive investment in its ability to develop phased array radars"
Bavar-373 "can detect targets or planes at more than 300 km, lock it at about 250 km, and destroy it at 200 km"
In April 2022, reports surfaced which claimed that Iran had transferred a Bavar-373 system to Russia for use in the Russian invasion of Ukraine"
Politics aside, which is not the subject of this thread, the point is how good Engineering matters, big time.
I very much doubt those successful Design Engineers cared much about capacitor colour, oxygen content in wiring, and similar stuff.
Oh, and what is S300, in practice?
The reason neither Russian nor Ukrainian planes fly much, if at all, over Ukraine.
A guaranteed "sky sterilizer"
Now Iranian Engineers matched that .... not a small feat by any means.
Some or many of them US trained in US Universities?
You bet.
Iran had developed a copy of the AIM-54 Phoenix as well, and that was a legendary missile, specific to the F-14 only in the US inventory. This was with the knowledge and complicity of the US.
I would need to check if the Iranian forces made it work on other aircraft, they were sold F-14 by the US in the Shah regime.
I would need to check if the Iranian forces made it work on other aircraft, they were sold F-14 by the US in the Shah regime.
That they keep those 50 year old planes flying and operational at a Military level without US assistance is a big feat on itself.
Besides that, and on a more "related to us" level, they also developed a very good Automobile and car parts Industry, which became the "go to" source for second source and aftermarket car components.
Here in Argentina there was a (US Dept. of State fueled) big fuss because "Venezuelan Boeing 747 cargo planes came straight from Iran, what are they hiding?"
They were stopped and searched at our main airport ... until big car manufacturers (think Renault, Ford, Chevrolet, etc.) angrily complained: planes were chock full of car parts used by local assemblers and production lines were stalled because of that!!
And why parts made in Iran and not in, say, Mexico or Korea?
Because Politics disappear behind profit and convenience, they are simply "good, cheap and plentiful", go figure.

Fats Eddie D - the money that is tied up in property (an asset that produces nothing) is insane. My wife to be bought an apartment beneath the one I shared with my father, a necessity for very good reasons after my mother died. She paid £34K for it in 86. Like a lot of people she had zero knowledge about property. It was an illegal sell that I put right and turned it from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom apartment. We sold it in 2001 for £179K. I didn't want her to sell it, I had wanted her to rent it out in case the move to the mainland didn't work out (the cautious Scot) again there were good reasons to sell. Fast forward to 2022 it would now sell for around £600K or rent @ £18-20K p.a.
Why did we move initially to Spain and later in 2009 to France, we couldn't find a piece of land anywhere for anything like a reasonable price and this was 1997. Plots of land in the South and I mean small plots, less than 1000 sq. m. can sell for £500K or more. Around €110K we will have a detached house built with aercrete blocks that are fire and insect proof with excellent thermal and acoustic insulation that for some reason are not available in the US. It will have an internal year round temperature of 19C with the very important air change system for good health, great views, friendly neighbours' and about 5 k from all amenities with astounding views, on high ground naturally, so no risk of flooding. The relative of my cousin Zak's wife recently sold an ordinary house in a not very desirable part of London for £1 million and bought a very nice big house with grounds out in the country near Aberdeen. By protecting the bankers and uber rich in 2008/9 with virtually free money, governments created the insane housing market across the world. Now when realistic rates have now appeared it means that the idiots who bought at these ridiculousy low rates are facing their 'moment of truth'. I don't think that governments will be able to protect them, though the completely disfunctional government in the UK is going to try. Sooner or late these world wide housing markets are going to have to reset just like stock markets have to. The longer governments resist the reset, the worse it is going to be. Why not wait for the reset, because I don't have any intention of buying either an old house or one of the new ones.
I'm not surprised about the Iranians at your School of Engineering, these people were literally 3 thousand years ahead of European people and of course sending these modern Iranians back to Iran and the Revolutionary Guards was a death sentence.
NareshBrd - can you do simple arithmetic - Indian population 2021 - 1.93 billion / population of the UK 2021 - 67.33 million.

Most of the doctors educated in the UK seem to move abroad?
Why are there so many imported doctors and nurses in the UK?
A quick search turns up more than 20% of all clinical staff, incl. GPs.

The Guardian, old article:
Study of leading economies says there are just 2.8 doctors per 1,000 people, with only Poland worse off.
Well done....you lack doctors, now do your arithmetic properly.
And if this is your standard, your investment planning will be lacking as well.
UK's number of doctors per capita is one of lowest in Europe

Fast Eddie D and JM Fahey - loads of factual info, NOT propaganda, really impressed and seriously fascinating. Good engineering is vital. I remember my wife's brother who worked for a long defunct aircraft manufacturer during the war as part of war reparations received an enclosed manufacturing unit from Germany. It produced parts to tolerances that were beyond the capability of his firm. One of my favourite channels is NHK World. Amongst many really interesting programmes are the engineering shoot out ones and the obsession with getting things right, not nearly right but spot on right.
Tony EE - as well as nearly ready to digitise my LPs and sell them I'm also going to be selling all my valves most of which I bought over 20 years ago lots of NOS Svetlanas KT88/EL34 and for me the best pre-amp valves - Russian 1578 and Tung Sol RP 6F8G together my end game sound.
This winter in investment terms I'm sure is going to see some serious upheavals in markets across the world. As China is a command economy it can and will disrupt at the behest of it's emperor at any time he likes. He holds so much US paper, it's frightening. He can close down Apples production at a moments notice. China produces (with horrendous pollution) most of the world's rare earth metals. Maybe it's better to use options, rather than own actual shares - vamos a ver/let's see.

Friends?Yes, Russia is Friends with, India ... and China ... and South America (extend that to Mexico)... and most of Africa ... and at least half of Asia ... let alone the Middle East (including Israel, go figure).
That covers 70% or more of Earth population.
So what´s your point?
Are you aware of what's going on in the World?
How anyone could be friends with Russia is evil beyond words. Anything that is a friend of Russia is complicit in their crimes.
And still you big up the
good guys

Now, I'm ignoring the erstwhile Argentinian.... but, now you (both of you really) are crossing the line into politics.
How about we just agree to discuss nothing more edgy than what kind of audio systems (*) they have at bordellos in Nevada and what kind of wine was preferred by Peron?
(*) Do they use rechargeable batteries or NiCad in their vibrating tools?
(1) I keep upping the ante on my AD/DAC. I got an RME ADI-2 Pro RS.... it makes fantastic recordings, but then I update the chain... turntable tune ups, cartridges, now a new phono preamp.. and I go back to square one. So, I sort of gave up on seriously recording all of the LPs. Besides, we're looking a 4000...

(2) You are sitting on a gold mine.
(3) I was soo ready to retire a few months ago, until the pendejo trashed my 401Ks... at least I was in a somewhat defensive posture.
Agreed, I've made my point and I can't be bothered with wrestling with pigs. Now, I'm ignoring the erstwhile Argentinian.... but, now you (both of you really) are crossing the line into politics.

I'm surprised how long the other bloke(?) from some Subcontinent always uses a disclaimer at the end of (his?) post's and keeps getting away with it.
I'd rather invest my time and efforts in other ways....
Be careful, now is not the best time to invest, wait for the next crash and then invest in companies with low debth that produce something people need and have to buy also during rough times. We live in a very uncertain, totally unpredictable time...
What is the difference between rechargeable and Ni-Cad?
I always thought of Ni-Cad as a type of rechargeable.
Mr. 'Stuart', like all opinionated persons, changes his trajectory when confronted. There is a difference between 1.93 and 1.39 billion. That first would imply India has more people than China, which would make most people think what they were posting.
The point is that an economic crisis looms in the UK, welfare spending on the aged and unemployed will exceed the contribution by those employed in 2023, so the only real way for the regime is to increase taxes.
That will perhaps cause a loss in the elections, which all politicians fear.
So the situation will continue.
Also, bear in mind that strikes (politely called industrial action) were responsible for the closure of many industries in the UK, who ultimately ended up setting up production in the Far East.
The policy of welcoming migrants has had the consequence of making some ghettos impregnable to the police, who dare not enter such areas in London, Birmingham, Leicester, and other cities.
Toronto in Canada also has some issues, I believe, in these matters.
All of these point to a lack of strong governance, and fear of taking long term decisions, as all the coalition partners will have different views.
Long term, less potential, the population is aged, not well educated, and welfare has made them lazy.
There are better options, search them out, preferably locally.
Most of these are known topics, and putting them up here is not controversial.
Maybe the sequence of presentation is different.
A hydro power electric company, with less 'raw material' issues could be a long term investment , unless climate change spoils its water supply. Or politicians, of course.

A female staff member at a bordello needing vibrating tools for self pleasure is....unusual.
Does Nevada have such establishments for the pleasure of female clients, with male staff?

Aaah.... I find that vibration with a healthy touch of 2nd order overtone is ideal for couples.... nothing unusual about it. It really brings out the midrange for a very pleasurable experience.
In my teens, I wanted to be a porn star, imagine all the chicks I'd meet.
Unfortunately I came up short in that endeavor ( cah-ching! ).... so I studied Physics.
And Vegas, I imagine they have that for sure. With a Stetson and cowboy boots, "Howdy ma'am, my name is Long Tone".
In the meantime, I need a high efficiency speaker... I've started to look at Voxativ drivers but they are expensive.
