I recall something happening between tyvek and cedar. Don't recall, but I remember seeing a pic of the tyvec in shreds.UV protection doesn't apply as it is an underlay. Yes, the grip is why you have the 'label' side upward. It also helps in advertising as it can be exposed for a few days before being covered and may be seen from the ground.
Absolutely no followup I am aware of, so cannot provide any intelligent information. Course, that would be consistent with me...

Gore Tex and Tyvek aren’t that much different. Neither are directional, they simply have pores so small they only allow water vapour to pass, not water droplets.
John, it may have been treated cedar that destroyed the Tyvek. In cedar roofing, you wouldn’t be using a Tyvek type product that I can think of.
I have seen someone make a bag of Tyvek, fill it with water, wait 20 minutes and say see? I told you it leaks.
They were seeing condensation on the outside or the bag not leakage.

I was actually hoping someone would diss me for "not being able to provide any intelligent information".. I do the setup, and wait for the kill...John, it may have been treated cedar that destroyed the Tyvek. In cedar roofing, you wouldn’t be using a Tyvek type product that I can think of.
You guys are not even second class. My kids far exceed your abilities to trash me...
I show them an olympic gold medalist beating me, my kids instantly text....sent the video link so we can see you eating dust...
You guys are nuttin..
John
John, if I ever saw an opening or weakness, I’d exploit it. With you I tread carefully, rather worried about repercussions.
Underlays may be exposed to sunlight for weeks and many underlays are used in open rafters roof so grip is hardly useful. None of the breathable membranes I've used had any grip on either side.UV protection doesn't apply as it is an underlay. Yes, the grip is why you have the 'label' side upward. It also helps in advertising as it can be exposed for a few days before being covered and may be seen from the ground.
And they are directional in the same sense as XLR cables that have shield attached only at one end. They work installed both ways but properly only in one way.
They shouldn't be.Underlays may be exposed to sunlight for weeks
It doesn't take away from the fact they are made anti-slip for a reason.and many underlays are used in open rafters roof so grip is hardly useful.
Then those are either outdated or fine for the installation you describe.None of the breathable membranes I've used had any grip on either side.
Not the case. All synthetic underlays breathe equally either direction. They have no choice. And they are directional in the same sense as XLR cables
You are the only one talking about breathing in relation to directional. If the underlay is supposed to be installed one way only it is directional. All synthetic underlays breathe equally either direction. They have no choice.
Ill bet this might be the first cable thread closed from house wrap pandemonium! 🤣It's pantomime season!
Repercussions???John, if I ever saw an opening or weakness, I’d exploit it. With you I tread carefully, rather worried about repercussions.
Shirley you jest??
I would respond by talking smack, but life is too short to get angry over trivialities.
However, when I lob one over the plate, I expect it to go out of the park..,
john
ps...I talked smack to a tech working with me the first week, he came back a day later telling me he asked for a transfer....
I informed him that I would make sure that doesn't happen....as he was the best mech tech I have ever worked with (bar none). We are best of friends now, and w/r to mech stuff, he walks on water. He just never had an engineer talk smack to him, so didn't understand where I was coming from.
There are a few techs I work with that I give jobs to, and tell them to do what they believe is correct, and tell me what they did after the fact. That way, if the sh#t hits the fan, I approved it. They are so good that I will always accept responsibility for their work..it's how it should be.

If you made that up, I truly hate you. Sigh, within 3 months, we'll be seeing TCA cables...PS Audio Platinum TCA ... Tyvek Coated Aluminium speaker cable .. "shunts skin effect electrons to the atmosphere when output clipping occurs" ... "allows unprecedented imagination at max level".
If you didn't make that up....even worse...😳
The real problem is, no matter how silly the prose, some manu is probably worse..

Now you re getting back into Cable thread spirit 😉PS Audio Platinum TCA ... Tyvek Coated Aluminium speaker cable .. "shunts skin effect electrons to the atmosphere when output clipping occurs" ... "allows unprecedented imagination at max level".
I was very distressed about people either talking fact and common sense or going silly but for other reasons.
Now the World is going back to normal.
Notice sharks are directional, they always swim towards Humans and eat them, the opposite never happens.
Ergo, quod est demonstrandum.
I've eaten shark fin soup but shark hasn't eaten me....the opposite never happens.
Also sharks don't normally eat humans they stop once they realise we are not fat tasty seals.
Now
Notice sharks are directional, they always swim towards Humans and eat them, the opposite never happens.
That's just stupid.
