@hhoyt we've all had that. I still haven't got samba working on my server rebuild, but since my CD ripping PC died not really needed it. It's quicker with a few GB to pop it on a removable HDD and just plug that in. I had to upgrade the linux version to get newer Java that one package required and somewhat grumpy over some of the changes that Systemd has wrought that do NOT make my life easier. Serves me right for doing a rush job to get the music flowing again I know.
If the voltage is stable, next up on my list would be a failed solder joint, but to my thinking most likely is a failure of the FET.Hi Ed!
I already checked the 6k 5W ww resistor while the problem was occurring and the V drop in both cases is correct for 6k, so yep, that 10 nF and it's ilk are scheduled for the chopping block.
Cheers!

I seem to recall a problem with moisture contamination failures.
Then there was the time a radio station was shown carrier frequency wobble. Turned out to not be the transmitter but in the monitor! (The chief engineer was going nuts so he gave me a call. My test gear didn’t show the problem, so as my gear is always perfect, the problem became obvious.) 😉
Hi Demian,The 47 pF cap is also suspicious. I have had issues with mica and ceramic caps that were really hard to find in the past.
Where does the FSK line go? Could there be something down that connection? Even a dirty BNC?
Your suggestion is a good one; leakage of that 47pF cap would turn on Q2 more heavily...
Cheers!

You young punks are only 70, I am pushing 80! Trust me, there is a difference, but better reaching 80 and complaining than not getting there at all. Unfortunately, I just heard that Richard Sequerra has passed away, an old friend who made both my smaller hi fi speakers and my best FM tuner (Marantz 10). He was in his early 90's. That is my target for my lifetime. 10 more years would be appreciated.
John,
You are an inspiration at 80, thanks for being here and contributing. I've learned more about FET circuitry reading your posts than studying Ed Oxner's book 'Designing with FETs.' I hope our conversations will once again turn to audio amplification and I look forward to more Curlian logic!
Cheers!

I'm sorry to hear that Richard Sequerra has passed away, I met him once at a show in NYC more decades ago than I care to admit. No question he was by far the nicest, and most interesting guy at that show. He did make great speakers, and lots of other things. I hope you will consider posting his passing in In Memoriam if it's not already there. You young punks are only 70, I am pushing 80! Hi HowieA more AF-oriented post to compensate for the RF post...
In ultrasonic testing, longitudinal waves traveling inside solids, fluids or gases can convert to transverse waves through reflection or refraction at a boundary. And vise versa, transverse (shear) waves traveling inside solids can convert to longitudinal waves through reflection or refraction at a boundary.
It can be such short of explainable interaction taking place there (not to mention Lamb and other plate and guided waves )

Is this why they call it the Black Hole? Nice name for a geriatric ward. You don't ever come out. All I can say, I don't feel my age... yet.
Sad to hear about Richard Sequerra. He must have been in his 90's or close to it? Allen Wright spoke highly of him and passed on to me that Richard said to him that the EL34 was THE output tube. That's what I am listening to right now.

Joe, so you're thinking of trying to drag me into your inductor dilemma - https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/the-elsinore-project-thread.97043/post-6877113
Well, I'm not your mother.

I guess that I'm lucky then, my 65th birthday was on tuesday 14th and I got the 3rd vaccine (a booster) the same day.
I want mine too, hopefully, next week. What's the saying? "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."
Got my booster last week. My 65th on the 6th.I guess that I'm lucky then, my 65th birthday was on tuesday 14th and I got the 3rd vaccine (a booster) the same day.
Hey, you guys know how to make a guy feel young. I'm not yet 50, but its almost close enough to start making plans. Due for my booster (3rd shot) in Jan.
With Waly long gone and Chris not a frequenter either, I'm probably the youngun. Feeling my booster right now. Got it this morning.
The thing is to recognize reality and start acting on what you think you want to do with the rest of your life.
Me, I have to play with my toys and finish the projects on my long list.
I think I might just pull it off, but that's how I got into this state...
