Have you been on the "Little Weed" again, Steve? 😉

You make me wonder what exactly is in your "gaspers"! :hypno1:

S'Funny you mention that. My mobile phone was bleeping incessantly tonight. "system7, our records show you are a current smoker. It is never too late to quit.. if you.. Read more: https://www.nhsm.uk.".

I can scarce relate the incidents in Guildhall Square tonight as the Halt and the Lame queued up for Booster Jabs. Happily, I found the fast queue. Having prior booked Cabin Class (Moderna) rather than (Pfizer) Steerage Class. 😀

Chap behind me told the Customer Advisor he was up for his first Jab. 😕

"Good God, man! What took you so long? Don't you read the newspapers?" I barked at him. 🙄

"I am scared of needles" he said shamefacedly.

"You ought to be more scared of Dying!" I said, "Leaving your wife a widow, or your child an orphan..."

What is the younger generation made of? No good in a crisis. 😡

C'mon, Steve!
Everybody knows it is:
Red- Stop

Green- Go

Yellow- G̶o̶ ̶V̶e̶r̶y̶ ̶F̶a̶s̶t̶!̶!̶ Taxies-go!

Indeed... When SHTF you got to act fast, most people tend to stand about and eventually some might suggest doing a voting session about what to do...
Get the *beep* out the way imbeciles, before natural selection runs it's course!

Edit:
For some reason that brought me back to a scene from Lock Stock & two smoking barrels.

I didn't entirely make up the traffic light story. It was a Telecoms Electronics Practical Lab thing I did years ago. Red, Yellow and Green LED bulbs, because Blue hadn't been invented then! Very tedious.

We were more interested in making stealthy electronic crickets which you could hide in a matchbox in the toilets. Caused complaints from the patrons, and Health Inspectors to be called in. 😀

Enjoyed the scene from the film. "Chevy Chase", "Bubble and Squeak"... my native tongue. The crime-boss reminded me of evil Vince from the TV show "Mongrels".

Felt a bit weird and palpitating this morning, and like I had been punched on the arm, for reasons best left undiscusssed. Read the leaflet I was given. Temperature 36.1C. I think I'll live. 😎

I was watching a Nova the other day and had a thought. They suggest time wants to speed up, just as space is to entropy. So, for our possibly known universe, could this explain the acceleration of space/time without use of dark energy?

Or, if a multiverse, then could the gravitational effect of mass be pulling the universe into overlapping universes from all directions all striving for the lowest possible energy level?

Nature seems to like to take the easy way out. Some of the newer theories are horribly complex, which is a hint to me they may help describe mathematically what we observe, but may not be how it works.

I of course am not an astro-physicist and devoid of the math skills to understand this. My poor brain has difficulty with quantum entanglement and it is a rather depressing thought that is all space-time already exists, we are just on one point, then that leads us to predestiony which I wish was not so. But then again, that is a perception. I know from my exposure to cryptography, generating a random number may be impossible.

You got me excited there, tvr. But it's Magnitude 8 all the way, it seems... 🙁

Nova Cassiopeiae 2021 and Nova Herculis 2021 it seems. Both impossible to see in my neck of the woods even with Big Binos. Can't usually see much below Magnitude 3 naked-eye with our light pollution.

Like most people in this thread, I don't really understand all this Dark Matter/Dark Energy stuff either. And neither do Physicists, except that it seems to be there. 😀

While I agree with that statement in general, isn't the days shorter now? Earth seems to be speeding up for some reason.
Shorter Days as Earth's Rotation Speeds Up
One would think slowing down would be easier than speeding up, why is it speeding up?

I know from my exposure to cryptography, generating a random number may be impossible.

Yeah, I've never worked with that stuff, but I do know that random numbers seem like utter and complete BS to me. For years I had a playlist that was just playing night and day, and the same songs kept coming back, eventually I figured that I should sort the music in a specific pattern before applying a randomized sorting, which made playback slightly more unpredictable but not quite. Much better than having everything sorted and just using "Play random".

Don't worry, in the third quarter of 2021 the Earth's rotation slowed down again.

The average length of a day in 2021 is 0.05 milliseconds longer than in 2020.

These small variations in the Earth's rotational speed are caused by the complex motion of its molten core, oceans and atmosphere.

However, in the grand scheme of things, Earth’s spin is gradually slowing down as a result of tidal friction between Earth and the Moon.

Accumulated data on the Earth's spin is shown in the attached graph.

The orange line shows the overall trend. Earth’s spin is gradually slowing down (by about 0.1 milliseconds per year) due to tidal friction.

The green line, which indicates the average length of day for each year, shows the unpredictable variation of Earth's spin.

In the same way as a skater can alter her rotational speed by altering her distribution of mass around her axis of rotation, alterations in the distribution of mass in the Earth's molten core etc. randomly alters Earth's spin. Conservation of angular momentum is the physics behind this of course.

So with the polar ice melting and sea levels rising, then the mass at the equator will reach further out accelerating the slow down. In a few hundred millennia, we will have to make leap year every three years. I hope we are still here in some form to worry about it.

I have discovered some useful NEW SCIENCE today:

Regular 10pm bedtime linked to lower heart risk - BBC News

Can't wait to try it. AND SO MIGHT YOU!

Be interesting to compare notes. Real science. "Early to Bed and Early to rise...Makes a Man Healthy, Wealthy and Wise."

First Alarm set for 9.50PM, second for a generous 8AM, but may be up earlier. We always went to bed at 10PM when I were a lad. The alternative was watching ITV News at Ten, which had me nodding off anyway.

Anyway, Cocoa made. See you in the morning! 😀

Or perhaps:
If all the people on earth did a simultaneous 100m dash in the same direction...
There would be no detectable effect on Earth’s rotation because the mass of the people is so much less than that of the planet.

The mass of planet Earth is about 10 trillion times the mass of all the people on it.

Anyway, the force to stop running would simply cancel out the force to start running!

"Regular 10pm bedtime linked to lower heart risk" - another click bait title :hbeat:
"However, it's important to remember that this study can only show an association and can't prove cause and effect.

More research is needed into sleep timing and duration as a risk factor for heart and circulatory diseases."
Stopping smoking is infinitely more effective at lowering heart risk! 😉

See everybody went to bed early! Very wise and healthy... 😀

What I liked about the BBC article was it was very definite on how to improve sleeping.

Always go to bed at 10PM! That's it! 😎

Bright as a button today, though I woke up around midnight for an hour and a half. Up at 7.30AM. Dreamt dreamy dreams and realised what I hate about Portsmouth.

Awful place, except for the beach. Cultural wilderness, and the people look like they have crawled out of a graveyard on Hallowe'en.

Must talk to my niece about it. She goes to bed early. Always looks marvellous. 🙂
