The Black Hole......

Except most cables from a technical and acoustical perspective. They measure and sound the same.
Where does this conclusion come from in the field of audio cables only?

Like being deluded
Just imagine yourself a musician, and you’re not sure if you are playing right or false right now ... is this, in your opinion, a mistake or is it musical ignorance?

I clicked on the Darko link. The PS audio hipster doesn;t have a very impressive workbench. An old scope and an even older sig gen. Looks like another Advertorial click bait posting. Sorry Mark I cannot consider that website to have ANY credibility.

Howie,

That’s all well, good and understood but there are things I’ve come across things that affected the sound of my system and after intense testing/investigation of these anomaly’s the conclusion was the changes were not supposed to make a difference. These things were repeatable and quite noticeable once you knew what to focus on.
I’ve brought the details to attention here in the past and have been met with the same response every subjective observation is met so I’ll just paint with broad strokes.
I don’t have the proper testing equipment (or the training to use it if I did) to corroborate my observations with but I can say I’ve gone to exhausting lengths testing to be sure ‘delusion’ wasn’t the answer to “what is it”.

You have to add, to the list of things to investigate, that it might be an artifact of your perceptual system... That doesn't make you wrong...

And in Guinea, 19.3 million tons, so what? Apparently, all the same, bauxite is just a rock, and oranges are just fruits on trees and not secret esoteric knowledge.

You’ve asked me a particular question and I replied (perhaps I shouldn’t). Out of bauxite comes alumina, out of alumina comes aluminium (in pellets)
I made a word play with ‘esoteric’ regarding underground mining. This word comes from ‘esotericos’ meaning ‘internal’, also what is taking place inside an enclosed space, usually sacred, thus not open to the public. (compare the progression from ‘interno’ to ‘intima’ in Latin).
Don’t count me in when there is a talk about anything ‘esoteric’ in technology.

George

Pretty much any cable will do 0-20kHz from a stable source into a reasonable impedance without creating measurable artifacts, regardless of it being used for audio or whatever. I am with Peter Walker on this one.
In that case, I'm on the reverse side together with Georg Simon Ohm.

Just from the mountain with bauxite to the production of aluminum and high-tech parts, it is quite a long way. It is strange to talk about esoterics in the field of non-ferrous metals only from the side of the mine. By the way, in Russia there is a very old joke that in Greece there is everything. YouTube She appeared after the release of the story “Wedding” in 1889, by Anton Palovich Chekhov. Recently, this joke has continued that in Greece there is everything even an astronaut. https://dkc43.ru/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/1487450624_1117-1024x683.jpg

Crest factor

I'm having one of my hunts for records with better dynamics and, as part of the analysis wanted to measure crest factor. Foobar DR plugin gives an RMS to peak measurement across a whole track but that doesn't give a full picture. Made me think, how long a period do you use to calculate crest factor and does it actually make any sense as a metric with real music?

I knew there was a hidden, deeper meaning in your choice of that word, George, well done!

Cheers!
Howie

Could not resist... sorry! 🙂

Ok I agree, I should have used the word learned instead of ‘knew’ (What to focus on) ........the message remains the same regardless of misspeaking. (I think I do pretty well for a redneck!) 😉

Yah, as humans I’m thinking we all get issued the same equipment (Excepting those with disabilities of course)
how we learn to use it is for the most part .....practice.

And like Howie and others allude to, maybe we’re not done pushing the envelope?

Disappointing you would judge people by their looks, and by the looks of a bench they are pictured next to. Of course, you clicked on the link knowing in advance it was to a page expressing views that differ from yours. All you would need then to defend your preexisting views would be to find some way to justify complete dismissal of the other person's views. Quick and easy to do it by looks, its a lazy cognitive shortcut too. Did you know the humans judge the competency of other humans on first glance by the shape of their chins? Most US congressmen and senators have square chins, the instant visual marker of competency to the lazy minded. At least you are no worse than average in terms of jumping to conclusions, I suppose.

To any others reading along, if you can bring yourself to click on the link and are willing to take the time to listen to the words put forth, then there may be something to learn.

The whole tone of that website puts me off. Sorry I am not that target market for some woo and foo about measurements being only half the story from someone half my age who can't even be bothered to put an Audioprecision in shot for the interview.

You dismiss the views of people on here often enough so time to get off your high horse on this one!

I have another definition from Pythagoras, Plato, Aristotle, the word "esoteric", called the secret doctrine, is transmitted only to some students. The knowledge gained during the esoteric experience is extremely subjective, therefore there is no single esoteric teaching. Essentially, esotericism is a combination of knowledge, information inaccessible to the uninitiated, ignorant of mystical teachings, special ways of perceiving reality, which have secret content and expression in “psycho-spiritual practices”.
