Bigbottle MM/MC Hybrid Valve Phonostage PCB

Got it, thanks! Will wait!

Curious if anyone compared this Phonostage to PH16 offered by tubes4hifi.com?
Price wise, it's a no contest with the PH16 being over €120 and the Bigbottle being around €35 inc postage (on average!)

I'd suggest the PH16 is probably quite good but for me, Dip Switches and using over 20 capacitors, id guess that it wont be as transparent. Thats only an educated guess as I haven't heard one, but according to my experimentation with phonostages, of which there have been many, that's usually been the case.

If someone had both, I'd welcome the opportunity to loan it and test it out here, measure the RIAA accuracy etc.

I cant see whether the RIAA is passive too.

My personal Bigbottle has an RIAA accuracy of at least +/- 0.5db, so I'd be interested in whether it gets that close.

Anyone want to send one over for testing?

Not built it yet. This one i mean. Im expecting this one to improve upon the ph16.
I have to use a step up transformer with the ph16. Not sure i have an ideal pairing.
Cartridge is denon 103r.
Its probably the hardest thing about using MC IMO

Trying to get that synergy between Cart and SUT.

I went through shed loads of SUTs and never managed it with my Ortofon Kontrapunkt b. In the end I gave up and nagged Alan into making this phonostage, which does away with any need for a SUT at all.

I recently bought a HA103-SEL, which uses the coils of a Denon 103r, and when used with a couple of High End Suts, it sounded terrible.

Straight into the MC side of the Bigbottle, it came alive and sounded magnificent. An experiment we conducted on three phonostages and the results were the same for all three.

Personally, if you are married to a particular phonostage that doesn't have a MC input or is blatantly better in MM, I'd go for a head amp, and it would Be a Denon HA500 OR HA1000

I achieved really impressive Sonics, especially after a friend of mine recapped it and worked his magic. The 500 was better than the 1000 when he had finished.

That said, I recently heard a K&K SUT used with a Lyra Clavis into a Salas Valve Itch phonostage. I can honestly say that the combo worked extremely well, and is one of the only SUT/Cart combinations I have heard under £10k to achieve the kind of SQ I would accept.

I’m thinking of a headamp. Im using an rjm phonoclone. Which is altogether clearer.
Keep thinking of a london decca as an Mm. Maybe.
Sticking with the 103 for a while longer. So this build will suit me.
Im happy to lend out the ph16 for measurement/compare.
Awesome....once we are free of the Virus and we can mobilise, I'll take you up on that.

Moving from a 103 to a Decca will be a very stark change.

I've had 2x Golds, a Super Gold and Blue here.

They didn't last long.

I am just curious if there is a modification to the board so 6dj8 tubes can be used instead of the pcc88. The only reason I am asking is because I have a supply of 6dj8 tubes.

If you replace ZD1P with 2 1N4148's in series, you will get 6.3V output from the regulator. Note the polarity is reversed from the zener diode. You will also need to not populate R2P and R3P but instead short them with a wire.
