I look to you and others to correct me. It just seems logical that anything thrown up with no atmosphere would fall quickly even with relatively weak gravity, no?
The rocks ejected (the ejecta) due to a meteoritic impact on the Moon will travel a large distance for two reasons.

  1. There is no air resistance to reduce the horizontal component of the ejecta's velocity. So, in the time it takes for gravity to pull the ejecta to the Moon's surface, it will have travelled a greater distance than if there had been an atmosphere.
  2. The Moon's gravity is weak, only 1/6th of that on Earth, so the ejecta takes longer to fall to the Moon's surface, allowing it to travel a larger horizontal distance before it lands.

Reliable measurements show that the Universe is expanding right into our face and is in imminent danger of becoming oversized. We have a legitimate scientific reason to be worried. Build an underground safety bunker with good airflow, it is by no means sure that every doomsday scenario will come to pass unnoticed.

Stupidity in science knows no bound.
Do you mean in all science including physics, chemistry and biology?

Perhaps it is stupid to rely on computers, smartphones, generation of electricity, LED lighting, clothing made of polymers and the advances in medical science that promote longer and healthier lives.

It is the stupidity of not understanding the place of science in our lives that knows no bound. A large section of the populace appears to think that new technology simply springs into existence in an Amazon warehouse!

Enter those who are in the business of exploiting it. Advances are so rapid as to be relatively exponential so you can almost just think of something and find it on Amazon for sale. But you are correct in that we don't seem to consider the ramifications of enabling it as consumers.

For any naysayers out there, here are some of the benefits that have accrued either directly or indirectly from 'Big Bang' physics research:

  • Production of medical isotopes for research and treatment
  • Technology behind MRI scans and PET scans
  • Security through scanning and monitoring at ports and airports
  • Fast-tracking of industry towards new products & technologies
  • Cutting edge computer technology
  • Promoting developments in other areas of science
  • Smaller and faster semiconductors
  • Touch-screen technology invented at CERN
  • The World Wide Web
High energy particle physics, specifically by revealing the workings of quantum mechanics, is the basis for nearly all the major advances in science in recent decades

The Apex never again to be seen after Boothroyd Stuart Meridian introduced the 105 mono/101 pre combo in 1977. Eat your heart out Naim!

Do people believe in science?

Simple thought experiment:
You are in a plane 3 km high in the sky and its going down, you need to get out fast.

There are 2 parachutes, 1 that is guaranteed by science to open in 99,999% of all cases. And the other opens when you have faith that it will open.
Witch one do you take?

😉

the world wide web was originally created to launch nuclear missiles
And, your evidence for that?

"Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist, invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989, while working at CERN. The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automated information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world."

Or asked to have an "open mind" as often referred to around here when there are dubious questions or/and lack of technical explanation.
