Is audiophile snobbery and snake oil ruining the audio industry for future generations? So, you really don't have a darned thing to contribute to the main topic, do you?
No, I don't believe it is
bury them in the hole Bob has dug.
”couple years ago started getting into xo design and implementation. Got that figured out with great success, now I’m here trying to figure out my weakest area, electronics......”
Hey, what I said was true......never said I knew what I was doing.
The results were a great success, better than I ever could have imagined.....gonna do it again with the new setup, and then slowly implement active/dsp/ multi amp, a/b’ing as I go.
I’m sure there’ll be plenty of future holes to fill in. 😛

Audio is Science there is no magic here.
Yes.
But hearing is not a science. Even though much is written and many degrees granted. The more we study what we really hear, the less we know.
But as you say, not a problem. Focus on the "gear" and its pricing.
Machiavelli would be proud 😉I tried to create a chance...
just because of one little point where we disagree, this entire conversation is invalid and has no meaning

But hearing is not a science.
It's very subjective.
But there is a science of hearing. It's the fields of psychoacoustics and hearing science (taught as speech and hearing science in college) and anyone that has successfully designed audio circuitry understands it to a degree whether they know it or not. Just the fact that we work with decibels is a nod to hearing science. Aren't decades more convenient?
I design with math. For speakers I start with math and finish tweaking (impedance correction, and notch filters) first with math, then listening tests. This process has taught me a lot. I understand just how biased my hearing is at the psychological and physiological level but it still has to sound the best it can. I listen for months and change something. You do not have to deviate from the math to try a different configuration. Different approaches work with different drivers and configurations.
It can take a year to sort out one design. You may think it's silly, but I'm not going to stop doing it that way without a good reason.
I listen for months and change something.
As you say it is very subjective, in countless ways. Do you have a particular technique/method/system of "critical listening" for want of a better term?
Hey Matt, why didn't you point the poor man in the direction of your cable thread? I think he'd quite like that.
Best cable thread on here IMO.

Mozartfan? Absolutely! ( nuts...)
I forgot about that one, yes, good point, best cable thread ever and wasn't closed! Very relevant also since "common sense prevailed". Shame he'll probably never see it........ Speaker Cable
Is his name Matt as well, oh God away with the fairies!Mozartfan? Absolutely! ( nuts...)
I' ve been trying to demonstrate the √2 as the diagonal in a square, lately...You do not have to deviate from the math to try a different configuration.
It's very hard...Pithagora's Theorem helps a lot, I must say 😡 Still, I didn't remember that the root becomes a square at the other side of the equal (=) sign. There is a 2 that at the end becomes alone, without the a which is the side of the square...you know d=a√2

Mozartfan? Absolutely! ( nuts...)

Hahahah! Probably just as bad as being lumped in with the millennials 😀
My favorite is the "Copper RCA Connector" thread where certain members (who shall remain nameless) decided that Alchemy > Physics.😱
Yes, it's that! As long as memory cancels threads older than 1-2 weeks

Nobody other than Douglas said much about the claim that the manufacturer was making all their cables without continuity from one side to the other. I just can't buy that. Yes, yes, snake oil, coax is fine, directionality ridiculous, rip off, I know all of that.
Much of the high-end amplifier manufacturers blurb mentions their amps being "musical" I'm guessing "linear" doesn't sound so........errr......musical. I have a hunch what they really mean is that they add second harmonic distortion like the BS Audio amp linked to early probably does, ie "voiced"Can't keep with a Jadis 500
Really don't know where the common sense was there. Why not at least have a look see what was wrong with them?Nobody other than Douglas said much about the claim that the manufacturer was making all their cables without continuity from one side to the other. I just can't buy that.
Roughly 1.5 uf shunting to ground. That one brings a smile to my face. Some amplifiers might handle it without bursting into flames. That inductor on the output stage of a sand based amplifier suddenly becomes real useful.
