I was asking myself exactly the same questions.

On my side, I put my enclosures WHERE I CAN in my listening room, depending of its configuration, geometry, and aesthetic of layout.
Keeping the requested equilateral law as the requisite.

Sometimes (litle enclosures on a feet) you can try to vary their height. Not when you are using columns.

The only trick, for me, is to adjust their angles by directing their axes more or less to the center.

At my peril I will try to clarify a couple things about the speaker set up. People have really fixated on the 2mm movement, so much so as to disregard everything else. So perhaps just change 2mm to small, and use your own definition of small. Maybe that makes a bit better, maybe not.

One thing that likely has not been stated in any post or link is that the set up method is based on the premise than the sound we hear from the speakers is based on the distance of one speaker relative to the other speaker. Conventional thought is that the sound we hear is based solely on the distance from the speaker to the listener.

I tend to think these two things are where the real disconnect is at. And most likely until one hears speakers set up by the Sumiko/Master set method, the disconnect will stay in place.

I can only add my own experience that a small movement of one speaker can make difference in the sound being centered between the speakers and not a bit off to one side.
In addition I chose to sit most comfortably off the right side of my room, rather than in the center. The distance from me to each speaker is very very different, and yet I have centered sound from just adjusting the distance of the right speaker to the left speaker. And the centered sound stays there when in other places in the room off to the left of center.
 
To me, it's just a car. My priorities are different. I miss my minivan...😱
Last one could carry 4 by 8 Sheetrock with the hatch closed. Seats in floor of course. Loved those the most.
Edit. Stow and go, forgot the name.
Carried an entire bathroom, floor tile, tub, toilet, pedestal sink, mortar. Can't beat that..

My Suburban did that and more, tires and performance when they are flat they don't function well.

There are quite a few good breweries. Even if you include Coors 😉

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is just a bit south. Boulder is not too far north. Lots of High End audio gets built in the area. Avalon, Ayre, Boulder Amplifiers YG Acoustics.

Spyderco Knives is just north of the downtown area.
 
This morning I picked up a drywall screw in my right rear tire.
A week ago just on dark coming home from the local shops on my treadly I crossed over a house driveway to gain access to a path that leads across the local park.
Just as I was on the driveway I heard the sound of hardened steel bouncing on the driveway.
I stopped, looked down and picked up a 4" long sharp ended hex head timber screw, as I went to move off I noticed the back tyre was going down fast and then I noticed the front tyre going down also.
This must be some kind of record, two punctures in as many metres and by the same screw FFS.

Edit: When I got home my only puncture repair kit had dried out glue so back to the shops by car.
On the upside the new repair kit I bought has self adhesive patches, ie peel and stick instant repair, brilliant.

You can measure the difference with tyres.

Thanks for the link. It's interesting to note the lower end brands such as Falken and Hankook are moving up in quality, bad news for the premium guys... But then again, over here, the Falkens go for $75 a piece instead of $100, for a saving of $100 for a set of 4: I'm not sure if that's reason enough to move "down".
 
I have noticed there is a lot of "noise" in tire reviews. You need to average them to get a picture of the category. It also depends on the tested size somewhat as well.

For sure, all brands are moving up in quality. A lot of the improvement in manufacturer Nurburgring lap times from 10 years ago is in the tire.

For (street) performance, you really can't beat the Michelin PS4S. Almost every OEM is switching their sports cars to it or has already. For whatever reason, that linked review didn't even review the top two tires in the category. They reviewed the Pilot Sport 4 but not the 4S, and some lower Continental - the top is Continental SportContact 6.

Same as audio.
I wonder if anybody has recent opinion on low end electrolytics? Have they gone up in quality, like the tires? Over the last couple of years, I've bought transformers, chassis, PCB from China, and the quality is top notch.
Hopefully, this'll bring us back on topic. 🙂

If your tires are dry rotting, first I would change suppliers, then it would seem you aren't driving enough!
Those tires were bought with this used car from 1998 (Volvo S70 T5, 240hp )
Finally, just how fast do you drive?
Go figure ;-) I was doing mountain races and rallies when I was young and competitive karting at the age of 50 to have fun !!!
Btw: When I change something in the handling of my car, like brakes or tires, I break-in them and I push the car to the limits on a regular basis to keep a safe feeling.
I like over-steering, I think it's less dangerous when you know how to control-it than the opposite, but, there, it was totally uncontrollable and dangerous.
I ran a set of Michelin's until the steel belts were exposed and started to rust and never noticed any major handling problems.
In Europa, it should be VERY dangerous ... at least with the police ;-)

I had a 2 litre Escort and had good tyres on the rear that I wore down to slicks and they kept getting better/more fun.
I got tired of disappearing down the first side street every time I even glimpsed a cop car so they got replaced eventually.
The new tyres were not quite the same but at least I could drive without the paranoia.

It seems to me that this would be very recording dependant. Has the stereo image been produced by ITD or ILD or both? Running these tests could be of interest Stereo Perception, Sound Localization & Auditory Cues
 
This morning I picked up a drywall screw in my right rear tire.

A few years ago I got a roofing nail in my left front, in the sidewall! I couldn't believe it. I suspect as the tire "flattened out" as it rolled it must have flipped the nail upright then the sidewall made contact with the point. There is an embossed line on the tire that demarcates tread vs sidewall, and the entry hole was just over that line sou could not be repaired. These were Michelin Pilot Sport MXM4s that came on the car and far from worn out, but that one wouldn't hold air.
 
Why did you stop at 18? There are lots of cars that come equipped with bigger wheels than that, never mind trucks.
Because above 18" is getting really silly. I would not buy a car on those wheels.


Would you even buy a car with drum brakes today?
My last car had disks and drums on the back. Drums for handbrake. Having seen the problems some cars have had rolling off when the disks cools down a drum brake has its place for those of us who don't drive sludgeomatics. New fangled cars have electric handbrakes. I avoid those.



My car came with 18" rims and 45 profile tires, and it is a very good handling car, smooth on the highway and fun on a twisty road. There is nothing daft about it. Of course, for my winter tires I use (alloy) 17" rims and 55s for a little more "bite" in snow.


You and I might have a different definition of 'fun' 😀
