Hi Guys
Just a curious thought. Do you guys have any favourite speakers from that era ?
Somehow from what’s available today to me has become too commercialised & also the crazy asking prices that we see. I’ve kept my ML Odyssey since new, have maintained, repaired & ugraded the speaker. Till now I still find it sounding great when compared to newer ML models. The other speaker that I like are the Revel Ultima Studio. Yep would be great to hear your views & thoughts

Cheers & Thanks

Yes that was the time when I got into the hobby Snax.
Re NHT 3.3, I got to hear them & it wasn’t to my ears as good in the bass as Corey Greenberg rave about & this goes for Thiels & ML that I heard as well. Perhaps the low mounted bass woofer does not work well on concrete building that we have around our region. The solution for my set up is to raise my ML off the floor by 3-4 inches off the floor.

I always liked Infinity speakers.

It must sound pretty good Nigel. I’ve always a soft spot for horn speakers. Use to listen to a friend’s properly set up Altec A7 has created quite an impression on me but the size of those speakers is tough for domestic enviroment.

On the first disco I worked for in 1977 as a DJ the boss bought in a couple of "Orange" folded horn speakers. I liked the sound of them.
My speakers aren't that big about 32 inches high by 18 inches by 18 inches.

The W bin ticks my interest Nigel but seems like it does not go low. So far as high effciency speakers goes, I think the Altec A7 is a very clever design as it is only 2 way & has bass that goes low enough. My friend tells me it can go down to 40 hz but Im not too sure but when listening to double bass it does have the attack & force that you can hear.
Thanks again for sharing.

Cheers

When I ran my own mobile disco in the seventies, I attended a disco road show which used exclusively Orange equipment. The combination of valve amplification and W bins filled the local concert hall effortlessly. The W bins may not have gone subterraneously low, but delivered great slam and impact to the dance floor.

Remember DJ Emperor Rosco's Orange Road Show?
