2” dome midrange? Using in a smaller 3-Way

The Jaycar XO used a resonance peak filter plus a Zobel for the speaker kit but a 2-element at 600
I guess that they did know what they were doing
I'm thinking tho that something better than the 12mm Mylar tweeter might be in order if I am going to be buying 6" woofers

I just patched something together with bits I had just sitting in my draw at the computer.
I've got an aircore inductor of 4.2mH across the terminals and a 12uF cap in the positive feed.
To be honest they are a little shrill but better than I remember them

Those M22WR have done some mileage. I bought them off eBay and gave them to Andy G and then you grabbed them. When I played with them here I wouldn't use them over 200Hz.

Forget the P17 as SB17MFC35-8 is miles better and dig much deeper and easy to use in a crossover, especially if crossed over around 500-700Hz. Others in the SB17NRX range may be suitable as well for a small woofer. SB20PFC30-8 could be a candidate as cheap enough but needs a larger box and I've never used it. They are coming out with a round version the SB20PFCR30-8. Another budget woofer would be the racetrack SB15SFCR39-8 which would make an interesting slim 3-way. At the moment there is no stock at WES.

That 850416 looks like a shielded version of the 850122 I've used in the past.

I agree that the Vifa D19 is a dog and the Vifa TC20 was heaps better. Recently I've used the SB19ST-C000-4 tweeter and is cheap and cheerful. Crossed over at around 4000Hz and it works very well. In fact it's used in SB Acoustic's Micro kit with the SB12PAC25-4 which would be great as a mid.

I've never warmed to 3-ways with dome mids except the Yamaha NS1000. I don't think they present the body or scale as well as a cone. But then again my history doing 3-ways is not great.

I'm tossing up a small 3-way at the moment using the SB21SDC + SB12PAC + woofer unknown or maybe a 8" 2-way. Maybe in the cooler seasons.

I did have them as small subs in an old car, great in that use but they have been around \.
I was listening to the dome with various XO components and I actually think my first impressions are correct. The little Peerless mid I have for comparison is smoother/tighter/cheaper
Perhaps I was listening at too close a distance but maybe it really is this pair of domes.
LSK have some stock of the racetrack woofer
I'm better with really big speakers than small stuff, anything using the P-13 as a midrange really
$200- is more than I can afford to spend at the moment, even if it my sisters moving house present
That $200- is the new subwoofer boxes

Which little Peerless mid? The racetrack woofer doesn't come as in stock at LSK (in stock shows up under the price in green). WES owns LSK and I buy from WES as I get trade prices.

I know what you mean and spending dollars on an unknown outcome is wasteful (been there so many times). Had a quick look at a small 3-way design and too many variables so I'll stick to a 2.1 for my small speakers.

The cheap SDS P-830656 and you're right the racetrack woofer is out of stock.
You need to be a better XO designer than I am to utilise this dome and I don't think there is a cheap XO option so back in the box they go. I might try and give them away for postage costs.
What-ever I build for Sis will need to be small, she is a neat-freak and the speakers will need to be small and unobtrusive so the M-22 was probably the wrong choice anyway Nothing wrong with a big 2.5, until I changed them to Bi-Amped my big speakers were 2.5 and they were great and only slightly improved by splitting them.

You should be able to make a good small 2-way speaker with those Peerless 830656 but I think we have different definitions of small. 😉

BTW, does your M22 woofers have any of the dreaded white powder corrosion on the magnesium baskets? Was an issue here with P, C and M Vifa drivers and before I gave away my 810921 / 18W8531 / M22WR speaker I had a peak and they had a few spots starting after 10 years.

Do you need some tweeters for your Sis project as I have a pair of SB21SDC-C000-4 that you can have for free (includes postage). They were used in the trials for a design I did.

Not on the M-22s, a little on one or two of the older P-11s. Yep The M-22 would be my own definition of a small woofer.
Any baffle narrower than 13inches
I also have a 5" Peerless India woofer here [KO-130] but no data
Very small 2.5?
I'd use the Vifa Silk dome Neo but I only have one pair of the originals left and greedily I want them for our new bedroom speakers

I can't remember tonal characteristics of the D26NC but I do remember it was the tweeter from hell to rebate.

These are a nice sounding tweeter with excellent off axis performance. Maybe makes them a bit more lively than the D26NC. I'll send an email to your personal address (same as 2017?) to make it happen.

Hey Moondog, have you considered a 4-way with your dome mids?
Something similar to some of the old Duntechs.

8/10/12 inch woof. up to 200 - 250Hz
6/5/4 inch midwoof up to 1kHz
dome mid up to 4/5 kHz
3/4 inch dome tweet for the rest

With the right drivers it can be 1st order all the way, with a Zobel here and there and maybe an L-pad for the tweet and dome mid to even it out. I personally prefer just series resistance but that is another story.

The only issue is your woof needs to be 3 - 6 dB more sensitive than the midwoof, otherwise the whole system becomes very inefficient due to the Baffle Step.
So, if your target efficiency is 88 dB you need a woof that is 91 - 94 dB.

Just another idea worth considering.
People are scared of the complexity of 3/4 way x-overs, but from experience I know 2-ways are much more tricky to do right.

I did years ago
I am not scared of 4-ways but I usually triamp for them using the CX 3400 unit or similar If you want the domes please come and collect them I am tired of not getting anywhere with them
I would disagree about the difficulty but a good 3-Way is better than a good 2-way to my ears because I grew up on big bass and big woofers
