quality of new threads going downhill

What constitutes 'technically capable' is a different discussion - I know of folks who can program Arduino or build a webpage but can't hang a picture or fix a flat on the bike.
Which is why I asked Pano what he meant by technology, it seems to me audio technology is about how the circuit etc functions on an electrical (or acoustic) level, whereas computer technology means something else entirely to the majority of people

In fact, it's 'come full circle' now - if you define 'computer' as desktop or laptop/notebook computer, the number of computer users is plummeting.
"I do it all on my phone" is something I often hear...though the "all' is generally consuming 'feeds', Twitter, Facebook, Facetime and unedited selfies. 🙂

Electronic sound reproducing design has been around before the advancement of computer. Someone good at amp & speaker design not being good at computer apps isn't a sign of deficiency in audio electronics knowledge.

Hi tapestryofsound,

I would truly love to see some of your work.

Chris,

As you have asked, and as it is a Sunday, here is something nice to look at.

I made this picture last winter while it was very cold. I used the camera built into my iPad, and 'treated' it there and then on the spot, so as to make it correspond with my memory of the occasion. There was a deer across the river from me pounding its hooves upon the ice to get at the grazing underneath. So cold, it just ignored me.

Yes. Misunderstanding is easy here, but isn't an issue with the right attitude, no one's likely to die due to it. It's also easy to let your ego go entirely (if you want to) and that can be very liberating. I have no use for the ignore list...no FOMO 😉😀

I must confess I have no use for the ignore list at all, either. After a few days, I just think 'what the heck - it's only words'. On the other hand, if I'm on certain other members ignore lists, then it is a source of personal pride - nah, I don't really mean that either. 🙂

You might have fooled me into thinking that was shot with an SX-70 🙂

I know, it really is convincing, isn't it? 🙂

One of the biggest regrets of my life is being part of the 1980's and not shooting thousands of sheets of Polaroid SX-70 film - I love the 'one-off' wonky aesthetic. They also look fantastic as high resolution scans blown up a metre square. You live and learn ......

Not me either, instead I have a sort of favorite list. More fun.
Often I read my Diyaudio 100 subject list from the top down ,right side, the last contributor and choose from my favorite list ,open in new tabs. Once reached the bottom I go up on the left on the subjects and do the same thing. Sometime I have a bunch of tabs open.

But some believe that they are entitled to their own facts and thread quality takes a dive.
To me, the amazing ("miraculous" 🙂 ) thing about diyaudio forum is that there can be groups of people who think that others are either 'deaf' or 'snake oil addicts', and that everybody gets along reasonably well.
So 'facts' vary a lot....but things seem to keep rolling along.
It's a good thing.

In either case, comments are not allowed.
I certainly don't want to be 'part of the problem' by not understanding that!

That's only comments on Moderator directives or decisions. Unless we use the cop emoji, we are participating in a thread as a normal member, and there should be no feeling that we are somehow different to any one else.

We have a strict moderation guideline on top of that, that any thread we are participating in we should not do any moderation of, unless it is simple janitorial work such as deleting duplicate posts, or performing a mod action someone asks for.

edit: Additionally permanent closure of threads is a team decision following a team discussion, no one mod holds power over whether a thread lives or dies.

Tony.
