First watt M2, which speakers?

I had a pair of Tekton Lore's. Fun speakers. 🙂

I'd take Tekton's efficiency specs with a pinch of salt.

Agreed. Some physics are violated or sensitivity specs are inflated. The most sensitive pro audio 10in woofer is no more than 98dB. A baffle that wide has -5dB baffle step loss. So 93dB is about best you can do. 93dB is still excellent - but it’s tough to get that kind of sensitivity below 100Hz with a bass reflex.

I've been using mine with a pair of Frugel-horn Mk3 with Alpair 7.3 driver.
This particular combination sounds wonderful and I've never felt the need for more power.

It does depend on the size of your room and how loud you'd like to listen so YMMV

Best,
Farhad

I can say the Enzos will play way, way louder than would ever be necessary with surprising powerful bass for dual 8 inchers, with the M2 for amplification. This is in a fair sized living room. I have 2 other pairs of larger speakers, that are horn loaded, Altec and JBL 15 inch drivers, and while there is no substitute for cubic inches, it is truely surprising how well they can scratch that big sound itch.

I’m on my second pair of Zu speakers (now a Druid V) and continue to like the sound. While I have never looked into actually checking their efficiency, I will say that I stay on the resistor ladder (passive) side of my pre-amp while using my Aleph J. IIRC, even the ACA did not require much, if any push from the pre-amp.

What is wrong with klipsch?
Klipsch RF7 mk2 have interesting specs, for affordable price!
Ok, for about same price you can get the tannoy revolution xt8F

Just found a second hand Zu omen on the web, not to far from home.
Waiting now for more info... year model, .ect

some are going to say that only old (model) Klipsch is real Klipsch ....... but - when you try them , if you like them - that's it

same saying goes for Tannoys .......

considering that you're form Europe , I can tell that this : Sonido , (almost) 1,5 Way speakers by ZM , Woland Edition | Zen Mod Blog is probably best bang for the buck , if you're willing to do some cabinetry

that will run in circles around Zu's

I'm in no way affiliated with Sonido boyz ...... they even owe me pair of 12" FR (3 or 4 years ??) , made on EV baskets I sent them ......

When you go with old speakers there is are several things to consider.
First: in most cases higher sensitivity is quite artificial. There are laws of physics, life would be so much fun without 🙂, and you cant get hight SPL at the bottom end without trade offs. You either need tons of power, or big *** box (and still some power) or, finally the trick people used back the: loosing some of the bottom end and bass quality. So most of the time I find drivers with high-ish Qts in a smaller vented box. You get 5db bump at let's say 50-70hz range. You level total response with that bump and here you go 90+do speaker with a 89db woofer. 50-70 bump will excite your room and here is your boomy bass from that era 🙂.
Other thing is non-optimal driver placement and crossover points and slopes gives you non optimal THD and off axis response.

Don't get me wrong you can still enjoy it, but those would be very music type dependent speakers most of the time. So something to consider.

I recently found a pair of hpm-60 in my friends storage. Oh man those woofers play so nice in 40L sealed and some xo equalization. 45-50ish F3 and no anywhere near 93db they were rated 🙂.

Btw, as Nelson generously provide our community with all the amps I can contribute on my side and design a speaker or two for people as these threads pop up time to time. We just need to start a thread and decide what majority need in terms of size, price and sensitivity. I can design the speakers then and make it available with all descriptions. If there will be interest mane the store can do a kit and I can make some flat packs available fir us crowd. If there is an interest.

Merry Christmas to all! 🙂
Not for ZM yet ;-)

I think this is a great idea! I'll start- 90db+, 8ohm, response to atleast 35hz, floor standing 3-way.
Let me know if there is anyway I can help.

Ok with your requirements if we are talking passive it is going to be: big and expensive 🙂. Just let me ask you a couple of questions where all these numbers coming from? Let's start with 35hz, as if you take a little bit easy on that one you might even gain some. If look up there is not that many actual musical information bellow 40hz. Also, usually if you go bellow 45hz in most listening room you will get more trouble than benefits as without proper room treatment and speaker placement your room will be playing more bass than your speakers and it is not gonna be very nice one 🙂.
90db+ is tricky as well as these numbers often (not always!) come from advertisement brochures which ... well 3-5db more optimistic from my experience. However, a little bit over 90 should be doable, but with impedance will not be 8ohm as you will most likely need to parallel woofers. Unless you want to pay some $ and order custom woofers. From my experience 4ohm on some regions but nice phase and higher elsewhere is still no problem fir most of Nelsons amps 🙂. I hope I do not crash anyone's dreams here 🙂. Just want to be 100% honest here as no sales involved haha 🙂

I'm good with all you've said here. I have actually acquired some rather expensive drivers in my attempts to fulfill my stated goals.
I was hoping there would be some less expensive drivers so more would join in. Maybe less than $500?

Acceptable Size of the box? $500 for drivers? Or drivers +XO? 🙂
We might work something interesting like two bass sections, but same mid+tweeter. One bass module for a passive XO and other for Nelson's B5 and separate power amp.
