On the iphone, it seems that just passing through the page prior to logging in is enough to trip the pop-up, which is now a warning of sorts, a different flavor from before.
The same holds true for the no ads, beta route.

Still works great on this old ipad though, again, no hurry for me if you have matters to attend to.

What's your feedback as to once you are logged in, if having ad code running or not makes a difference?

Iam always logged in. So definitely happens when logged in.

On the iPhone it does happen logged in or not, but not every session for me.
In the No Ads template I have not seen it yet. Will keep browsing to see if it occurs with no ads.

Thanks, please let me know.

Definitely been getting spammy redirects off my android phone (Chrome) the past couple days. Hasn't been a problem on desktop/laptop even though I have adblock whitelisted on this site.

The problems currently all seem to be affecting mobile only (iOS and Android), however I am completely unable to reproduce them. Can you please see if you can give feedback about whether the problem occurs with/without ad code running for you?

I take it there must be hidden tracking pixels that trigger the popups in some cases. Scrolling up or down outside of the advertising frames easily sets it off, presumably since scrolling with a phone involves touch. Touch a pixel, get redirected, is what appears to be happening.

I have yet to see have a pop up on the no ads version. But I haven’t been on the site that much in the past day.

And yes, the ads seem to be triggered by a touch or click. Happened a lot when trying to post or upload photo.

Definitely only happens on mobile, not desktop.

If I search in safari using the no ads url, then all is fine, can hang out on that intro page without any issue, however if I so much as pass through the regular site, the pop ups happen. This is in the iphone 6, my older ipad won't have a problem either way.

Sounds like you have a good chance of testing this properly. Can you please use the style selector dropdown in the footer to select the "no ad code" version of the site (the background of the site will turn green) and review?

When i had tried navigating to the noads site from the regular site, I had the issue.

Never withessed a green background either way, did notice a lack of legit ads.

just tried it now, have a green background, however this is going directly in from safari.

not seeing any dropdown box like yesterday so I really cant try that.

Navigating away from the main noads page while logged in on my iphone put me back on the regular site again.

My login wouldnt work from the regular homepage on the iphone either, kicked me back to the login again.

Sorry I cant really review as you have requested... Hope this is somehow useful.

OK, I tested noads and had no popups on that page. I did see the green background but only on the front, landing page. I logged in, and because I'ma donor I don't see ads. I had no popups.

Going in through noads and not logging in brought me the popup first time I scrolled while reading a thread.

Its definitely an ad triggered by a mobile device scrolling, probably in the javascript somewhere.

Website for popup claimed to be us.tranquilzing890kd.xyz

This was all with an iPhone 7 and Safari.

Sorry, I didn't explain that well.

  • Don't use the /noads link anymore. It only worked on that one page and not the rest of the site. Therefore I developed the style changer which is site wide. I have removed the /noads link to avoid confusion.
  • Please use the style changer which changes the background green to do any testing

That said, based on Hikari1's experience it looks like this is ad code related, and the site itself hasn't been compromised, which is good news in that it helps narrow down the cause.

With my iphone 6, I can't get to a point where I can successfully login before the adspam thing attacks and prevents me from continuing.

Phase (only): Please try the following. I have already changed your style to the no ads code style, so as soon as you are logged in, you won't have any ad code running.

1. Go to diyAudio - Alternate Homepage - No Ad Code (I've reactivated this for you)
2. Enter your login details and press submit, this should set your login cookies so every time from now on, you'll be logged in (unless you're using incognito mode in your browser)

I've sent you a PM, be great to connect on Skype with you.

I am getting a 404 error when trying to go straight to the noads from safari.

ok, got in there before the popup could take me out... This was from the regular ads page, not searching for the noads like before.

Now that im in, onto the noads page, it is frozen, wont allow me to login; shows me on the noads but not logged in, the ad script must have got me.

and i dont have skype setup on this ipad, feeling like a luddite about now.

I can't really explain this behaviour. diyAudio - Alternate Homepage - No Ad Code should not / cannot return a 404, I am guessing you typed in the wrong URL as the webserver won't return a 404 in response to that HTTP request.

I'll assume from here you managed to get that URL to load. If your page is frozen then there is likely something else going on with your browser or phone. Can I suggest killing the browser process and trying again, and if that doesn't work, restart your phone, restart your browser and manually type in that URL. Thank you.

Jason,

You are correct. The popup only happens on Mobile devices with ads enabled. The site itself is clean. Google is serving up this dreck and I doubt there is anything you can do to eliminate it. I see it everywhere google ads are served, periodically.

The only way I can imagine to track down which ad(s) is/are serving it up is to limit the site to one advertising block, not the two we currently have, and collect reports of what the underlying ad is when the popup was triggered. I suspect we'll find there are multiple offenders. There are certainly multiple URLs listed as sources of the popup.

Apple doesn't allow AdBlockPlus on IOS/Safari, but that would disable it. Mozilla's do-not-track mode also disables it, but not available on IOS.

I had typed in"www.diyaudio.com/noads" and gotten a 404 screen that also explained that there was some work being done to the site.

The url never would load.

just passing through the regular site has detrimental effects, and even if I do make it to a login, am without any ability to navigate.

Wish I could use an ad blocker with this iphone...
