Congratulations on this deal! 5 Euro's if virtually nothing for such an amp (assuming it works). It's indeed a PA amp for professional sound reinforcement use.

You can use this at home, however you may need some cable-adapters on the input (unbalanced to balanced/XLR) and speaker leads (Speakon to bare wires). Depending how the rest of your home-hifi looks like.
It may also have a fan which could make some audible noise.

Overrkill? Perhaps, depending on your speakers and neighbors: use this amp with caution.

Wow 5 Euros, nice work! That's a great amp. I used to tour with racks of those for our PA system(s). Its meant to power a large PA that is much louder than the fans. Just play your music at 105db, you wont hear the fan anymore. 😛
What kind of speakers are you using it with?

For now I'm not using anything on it because I don't have the proper plugs yet. Strangely enough not speakon but it looks like xlr.
I'm a bit afraid to hook up my visatons on it. Somebody warned me the amp is way too powerfull and would blow up my speakers. Then again somebody else said too powerfull is not as bad as not lowerfull enough. Again, I'm a complete noob in the audio world, but willing too learn and very interested.

At 8 Ohms (assuming thats what your speaker are...) the amp is only outputting 350 watts per side. What Visaton speakers do you have? Also, do the speaker output jacks look like a large 4 pin XLR? If so its an EP4 connector, Very common for older PA systems. Clair Bro's uses them exclusively.

Don't exactly knwo which speakers. Bought them in a seconden hand store (59 euro's), they have a al170 mid/woofer and a g20 tweeter. But they don't look like any of the models on their site. A custom build by an unknown builder but tot my ears they sound amazing. Thanx for the xlr explanation btw.

Get the users guide for the LAB 1000 at http://www.marketing.labgruppen.com/webservices/dh.ashx?t=qv&v=6275

It says the speaker connectors are Neutrik NF4LC Speakon (on page 6); incl. how to wire them up....
If you're not familiar with this, find someone who knows how to connect such amplifiers.

IMHO as long as you use "sensible" sound levels, you won't blow your speakers. Most hifi speakers get ruined by clipping amplifiers, which with your LAB GRUPPEN amp will most likely not be the case...

YMMV

Amazing, I'll look into it. Thanks for all the help.
I now use those speakers on a lepai2020 and I don't even turn the volume half way. So I'm safe I guess... Hope to update soon even with a pic.

I'm planning on building the zapf zrt speakers. I think the combo will sound sweet.

Again thanks to all

Hij, checked the amp and strangely enough it's definitly not a speakon. It looks like a normale xlr so, no ep4 either. So the manual is legit except for the drawing of the rear. 3 numbered pins and that's it. To quote goldmember: isn't that wierd?

First try tot upload a pic.

It looks somebody fitted those (XLR?) outputs later, originally it was Speakon, the printed text below the connector refers to Speakon.
Best is to check inside to which pins the + and - speaker connections are connected.

Be careful when you use XLR for speaker connections; it's just "too easy" to plug a microphone cable in the speaker output....

So I you intend to use this (most likely non-original) connectors, be sure to make/buy dedicated speaker cables, with sufficient wire diameter.

1mm2 is way too thin for use with high powers and long cables.
It may work in your living room (hifi, short distance), but if you think of using this amp for other situations as well, I would advise to use 2.5mm2 or 4mm2 The cost-difference is not that much, by the way...

No, it specifically says XLR 😕 And since when have Speakon had pins 1 2 and 3...

Changing them to Speakon should be easy as the connectors both have D pattern housing.

Looks a bargain. Appears to be in decent condition.
