I have never liked digital much. From the first time, in 1968, I have always found it flawed. Who knows exactly what is wrong? So I will still monitor digital playback, and of course I get it with TV sound, so I get 'that' every day. But for me, analog vinyl playback is still the best, with pre-1980 recordings. Hasn't been beat yet, at least on my system.
 
Bill i don't believe you can be the judge of what I like, all I say that despite the noise the tracking issues ,the higher distortion and the fact that digital is the superior source I still like vinyl the best. As I have great confidence in what I hear, I just can't stop wondering what we have been missing in the vertical perfectioniing of things. What is it that vinyl can do, that digital medias fail to do. I'am sorry that you missed the point and thus feel obligated to tell me what I like...

'we' have been missing nothing and enjoying music from many sources to great enjoyment. What you are missing I cannot tell. I have not missed the point, in fact I may be close to a bulls eye.

In UK in the 80s a number of people used to complain about CD and hold up FM radio as an example of a much higher quality. This was funny because the BBC used 14bit digital streams to get from studio to transmission station.

People like the noise from vinyl, when I asked why they prefered vinyl people often said things like 'CD sounds too sterile' thats because the noise was missing. It can be the ritual involved but i was not so keen on that bit. That just left the noise, i got over it.

I used to have two reel to reel machines but the hiss, the cost of tapes and lack of professionally recorded tapes made me sell them in the end.

Now i only use a digital source, mainly FLAC files, things have never been better as far as i'm concerned.

Except in many modern ultra high quality vanity LP's there is no emotion. I'm glad I bought half the Sheffield Labs catalog as $1 cut outs when the Harvard Coop dropped vinyl for good.

I wonder why vinyl is growing double figures when Digital is better, maybe more than I feel that something is not just right with zero and ones. Even modern recordings sound better when issued on vinyl, and sures there's emotions in newer albums. Even if some of the oldies are really good and full of life, room and atmosphere
 
So far the most accurate to real music I get is with direct from master to me via direct downloads. There is no LP nor CD pressing, players etc. Just direct to me HD. Even if that download was from a tape or digitally recorded..... it is far and away the more accurate in subjective and probably objective.

IMHO, but, of course. I like getting rid of as much 'stuff' between the recording and my listening. All the electronica I have left to deal with is a storage medium and DAC and power amp. I use the BenchMark 2 because it has very low artifacts. Pretty good sound without all the mechanical contraptions of the whole LP process and low bits CD player issues adding to everything. All gone. Hope it keeps getting better this direction. Moving my HD music to the cloud since i travel more now.

Yes, that would be a problem. Guess you cannot let go of that LP system then..... need it to play the 78's. [I keep a VHS for video oldies].

There is always somewhere... good music to listen to. Putamayo Records.... world music which is usually very well recorded and I always find interesting music to listen to. Maybe I can find HD downloads from them someday.
