The better ones are more or less linear and Ohms Law R = V/I applies approximately.

According to Ben Franklin the best bolt is one collected via wet kite string at an altitude of about 350 feet. He wrote that it is important that the string be three-strand cotton wrapped right handed as any other construction will smear the transients in the bolt resulting in a much less impressive St. Elmo's Fire display on the key tied in the string. Of course the key needs to be brass...not the modern alloy stuff but authentic 18th century brass as the modern stuff has grain boundaries that can distort the rise time of the pulse from the bolt. Oh and don't get me started on the kite details, I'll need a separate thread to go into those in depth.😉
I was brought up in that era of comedy. It seemed sad to see them resort to the foul mouth stuff to get attention later on.
