£100 for a cabinet kit (£175 asembled) is remarkable.
I asume you don't mean the cabinets in the pic? They are solid american cherry , 1" thick, built by a joiner and strengthened internally. Probably would cost about £1500 to have made today.
ro9397, you couldn't reply to my last comment so you are now picking on someone else.
Please jog on, while I set you to 'ignore'.

Not being funny guys, but these are some serious transducers. Why some of you have bothered to try and humiliate me for posting a picture in the spirit of the thread is beyond me.
So what if there was a dresser in the photo when I took a pic of my newly arrived babies.
Aside from the fact that this is not a 'criticize my acoustic treatment' thread, anyone could have just asked "Oh dear, does it still look like that now?" and I would have replied "No, that dresser in the pic caused some unwanted reflections. You should see it now, it sounds great" - but the thread isn't about my acoustic treatment.
Instead we got a few smart alecs making assumptions purely to try (and fail) to show how clever they are. And what happens when we assume? It makes an A.S.S out of U and ME.....

Hi just to say that personally i like your speakers very much indeed
the shape reminds me a little of Avalon speakers if you know the brand
By the way, do they come as a kit or a finished product ?
The transducers look spectacular (maybe used also by PMC ?)
Do you have a link where to find some more info ?
Thanks a lot and kind regards, gino

This site is like that. Many people listen with eyes and the typed words of the latest online guru speak and their limited hands (ears) on experience. The best sound is individual and not cookie cutter as many ASSume. 😛 It's best to be your own man in life, build and listen to what works for you.
that really made me laugh!Dressers between speakers is a long-known and highly regarded audiophile accessory, well known to improve performance in every way. I don't know how or why anyone would not pile as many hard reflective surfaces between speakers as possible, including every shape of dresser known to mankind.
/sarc off
yeah but theres a difference between a tv and a big dressser, especially if the tv is behind the front of your speaker. No I mean just a CRT ! it's still working fine and it's 78 cm's so that's about 30 inches 😛 I have no knowledge of the word "behemoth" nor did Google give me any clue . Please explain . My limited IQ suggested that it had anything to do with the Rottie displayed in the picture .
And read MY conclusion , I'm not stating Anything here , I hear NO difference with or without the TV in center of the speakers .
Boy 🙂 what a discussion about a bloody dresser 😀
Cheers ,
Rens
the dresser is literally more forward in the room to the speakers and will create problem.
i ever heard Epos ES12 and Merlin (but don't know the series.just the brand).
Epos was natural enough, flat-enough response while Merlin was pretty hard to drive (my friend's amp is KT88 ElectroHarmonix w/ 6N1P (if i'm not wrong).looks like the amp is the culprit 😕

I didnt wanted to be insulting or critisize you, me and ro937 simply recommended to have a look at how the dresser may compromise slightly your speaker in that room.
you take what I see as merely recommendations to improve your system to as humiliation 😱.
We have bothered to help you and have receive nothing but insult.
I hope we can all move forward, no hard feeling!!!!
I don't agree that nothing should be between speakers. Physical separation of channels is beneficial for imaging. If anything, he needs to put a bigger dresser. Even better, put suggested bass traps between speakers, as a divider.
You can put something in between speakers, but theres good reason that audiophile racks are made how they are, ther are non obstrusive and let the waves to not reflect on the rack.
Putting a big dresser in between the speaker is the equivalent to having your speakers close to the side wall, which absolutely cause problem.
Please explain why a bigger dresser would be beneficial? this is absolutely not true and wrong to the highest degree.
acoustic treatment is good between the speaker sure, but on the wall, not in between the speakers.

Diffuse objects or absorption between a stereo pair can be quit beneficial. With a mono signal (found in stereo recording) if radiation is good the two speaker sources will interfere with each other and create nulls and poor center frequency response (tone) - This normally happens most in the 700 to 2K range in my experience and can be a problem - as much or more if there is nothing between the speakers - wider spacing and horn loading the midrange can help
this guy maid the best diffusor putable between two speakers. Quite expensive but woerth it : ANDRÉ-CHARLES BOULLE - Encyclopædia Universalis
You can also if you have less than 1.5 meters in a smalll room put the two speakers close together or better a wall in the length between the two speakers from the wal behind to 1 meter after the spaeakers; serious : good experiences was maid with this concept for acurate stereo.
But IMHO, the better is to have at least 2 meters min between speakers and 1 meter min from the sides walls and the wall behind (but not symetric; e.g. : & meter from the front wall for both speakers ; 1.10 meter from one side wall; 1.30 from the others... reduce the space between speakers to try more than O.8 meter from side walls in relation to each speakers. Avoid material at the same height than sthe tweeters and of course woods furniture no full up (emissiv vibrations = a third voice !)
My 2 cents after some experiments !
What is the best room your heard ? Lol ! New pleyel concert room maid in Paris ! fantastic !

I've done experiments some time ago. Physical divider between speakers greatly improves imaging and extends "sweet spot" area. I discovered it when placed speakers on the floor, separated by computer table. I thought that the speakers I made were so great, actually it is a computer table that was great.
The ultimate divider would run from floor to ceiling and end not to far from listener. The downside is aesthetics of it , nobody would want to sit and stare at the wall edge, dividing room in half.
Hi Gino,
These are very poorly documented speakers and I am not sure why.
They were built to order and are unique, but the kit is available from www.wilmslow-audio.co.uk
The design is called 'Prestige' and these have the platinum driver pack fitted along with internal wiring using Missing Link speaker cable.

😀This thing you are talking about with the 'wall', there is another name for it:
Headphones...

Of course nobody can live with 90° wall in the living room... I would like to find again this photograph in the L'Audiophile review of the enthusiast who maid it in him Attic.
In headphones sound does not mix in front of you. Although I'm working on prototype of headphones that will mix stereo channels.

Thanks a lot indeed for the very valuable info.
I like the speakers very very much indeed.
Even if i read wonderful words about the ATC dome i see that many designers prefer to go with a cone mid for a 3 ways.
This is one of my long term nightmare ... that is the selection of the crossing point between the woofer and the mid, usually placed but those designers around 150 Hz.
Thanks again and kind regards, gino
Old Pumas
Hi Gino ,
I bought some old Puma's in 1990 for 200 Euro's with blown LF voice coils . The Hf's were intact . I build Phil Short's crossovers (tannoy) and reconed the LF's with 3839 cones from Ebay . My wife repainted the baskets and they look and sound like new . The cabinets are 140 Liters tuned at 34 Hz . Pretty happy with the sound !
Cheers ,
Rens
Hi great speakers you have ! may i ask the model of the Tannoy DC you have used ?
Thanks and regards, gino
