Is Audioxpress worth twice the price

Yes... <cue announcer> <big deep booming voice> Linear X, where "X" the unknown meets audio reality... who knows what you will find, when you visit the unknown: Linear X... <end announcer>

<disclaimer> any resemblance between this publication and Linear Audio is purely accidental and circumstantial, the publishers take no responsibility, period. </end disclaimer>

Thank you.

There are dozen of people on this form who could write article for Audioxpress . Now given what they pay not much it then become after all a labor of love. Given how a speaker is built with the process of choosing the parts is informative , how many people build their own speaker (driver) or could spec custom ones ? Now how many like to build their own preamps , amps , and speaker (using existing drivers) . A rehash of the history why WE used interstage transformer to drive transmitter tube and it limits for one . Article about resistors from carbon to film to wire wound would be more value than "paper or plastic mister" for your woofer . Sterophile does equipment why not review parts .

just the stuff we've been talking about, and what's in the mag.

i'm just wondering aloud why they are doing what they are. I guess if I were in the editor's seat I might do things differently. A lot differently. I have not been asked to be editor...

I want Audioxpress to succeed. Those who felt that the publication is worthless is intitled to their opinion but I don't believe that's an accurate assement. I would think that Elektor knew what they were doing when they purchased the publication. They have a multitude of resources and Elektor I believe builds prototypes to insure a functional project. The more sources of accurate information the better.
Way back and for a long time I would not build anything that was was first published by audio amateur. Feedback was slow and there was always corrections to the design as much as a year later. I would asume audioxpress has the bugs out of what they publish by now hopefully. The question is still weather we are getting our moneys worth? Mr dell realized combining his publications into one allowed him to continue being profitable and at the same time subscribers also got there monies worth. Could this scenario be effective with the grouping of Elektor publications. My vote for jan man as editor!!! All responces are welcome and appreciated. Yero

I learned the same thing, and had a couple letters correcting mistakes published. Other radio and electronics mags wouldn't bother with corrections!

In receiving QST for over 40 years now, I can't remember a mistake they've made (other than being slow on the uptake with silicon). I think they vet every idea, or come up with it on their own, in their own labs up in Newington CT. It's nice when the guy who's name goes on Rohde Schwartz writes an occasional article in QST or QEX about receivers.

There is no comparison between QST and AudioXpress.

And yeah, Ulrich Rhode's articles are always cool and very leading edge and the type of thing that you drool over... 😀

QST is pretty good as an aggregate publication, over time... nothing spectacular in any one single issue, at least that I can recall. Great reference. Also useful for holding down a shelf in a hurricane, assuming you have a few decades of back issues... but it is a very different thing for a national organization to publish a journal, and a private company making a magazine.

I'd prefer to compare to the early Ham Radio Magazine - Jim Fisk era - to AudioXpress/amateur. HR Mag is more comparable to what Linear Audio is today, imo. AX is not even up to CQ or 73.

Continuing downhill

It seems the new editor revamped AX to an advertising mag for pro/semi-pro audio gear.

Even though I cancelled my subscription they keep sending me both the hardcopy and electronic version. Could be they "missed" my cancellation just to keep the subscriber numbers up, and thus advertising revenue.

Only in name does AudioXpress still exist. Too bad, it used to be an excellent magazine.
