I just got the board from tea-bag, i'm looking at people's choice on each parts.
my questions are :
- what is the benefit of using 0.22uF auricap in ccs part instead of a cheap one such as wima? as far as i know, high grade caps such as auricap/mundorf is for signal.
- I think that relay part really does not need audiograde parts, generic MF and panasonic fc would be enough, since it's only used to trigger the relay. is it correct?

-There was a small subjective test between a couple of members back then on Vref LEDs cap and they concluded on MKP10 is balanced enough for that position.
So we allowed such footprint on board. Since its a generous space some tried and talked for a benefit with Teflon later on. But its all anecdotal evidence of course.
Choose your own poison if you got a favorite type I would say, but keep short leads to minimize extra inductance.
-The relay drive area is certainly a utility that has nothing to do with subjectivity. I would suspect aesthetic and sourcing conformity reasons only.

I think that i can only find auricap implementation on power supply in DCB1, or maybe my knowledge is limited to some projects only 😀
I have 16 pairs of K170&J74 labelled between 7-10mA. when I checked Idss using sanwa pc500, i find that Idss is matched with the label. I use 9V alkaline battery and try various R from 100R to 47R and measured small variance of Idss. Is this method reliable to ensure the originality those transistors? I only paid $4/pair from local seller 😀

-Its in the PSU part but not on the CCS. Its across the voltage ref LEDs.
-Use 10R in measuring, but 47R is good too at those currents. You only use NJFET K170 pairs, no PJFET anywhere.

If you will like it as it is with the Auricaps and they will stay, trim their leads shorter in the end. Nice work in progress photos.
Lead length/inductance never occurred to me. The caps are sitting ~7mm above the board, so I can trim a little. Was worried more about the radius of the lead at cap entry.
BTW, had the auricaps stashed away from another completed project and just gathering dust, so figured what the heck. Saw at least one other example where they were used in the Hot Rod. Have the Wimas on hand as backup.

Hot Rodded at 600 ma per device. AndrewT calculated that would require 72va.
Hi
Please advise. I found this R-core 70W, it provides also 0-8V to get 5V regulated for LightSpeed atenuator.

What is your opinion?
Thanks
I'm waiting for toroid and relay, can't wait to test it. I just bought a cheap old stock 20step mono attenuator, $10/pair @130R with unknown resistor used. I'm still searching on how to make it 20K

Hmmm. Better try a new one

Or try this software:

Have a nice weekend🙂

I'll keep that cheap att as a collection for now 😀 I got an offer for: TKD 2CP-2511 25K $50 and ALPS BlackBeauty 10K $40.if I should choose, which one is better between 10K vs 25K?
Thanks Salas, I just got both of them. First try will be alps BB, I love it's built, and it's big 😀

TKD is much better.

I have tried it and it is crap in my opinion.

another vote for TKD

anyway the seller keep teasing me with his tkd attenuator

Well Crap was a strong word. Alps is tracking bad . A big difference between the channels and it is Carbon . Carbon give a rich sound but hidding a lots off informations.
Go for potentometer. Attentuators will suddenly go problematic. Loose concact etc.

The ALPS are fine. And a potentiometer is an attenuator.
For me a attenuator is stepped with fixed resistors. If Alps is fine depends on what you demand.
Is that one in the middle a pot or a nuclear reactor?😀
I don't have that TKD attenuator on hand yet, but i think it's a sissy compared to my $5 mono attenuator collection, some friends call it hand grenade 😀
With so many articles and impressions on potentiometer vs attenuator among high quality products, i think that DCB1 will be able to tell their differences, hopefully my ears could detect it 🙄
