Hi Nathenry,

The two TH examples I referenced should give a choice to work from. To reach ~~135dB it will take about four of the 6-Fold boxes, and 3 of the TH18's (and that doesn't take into account any form of high power losses). If you have taken the time to work through the TH18 thread you will have noticed, that there is currently a debate about the application of a "cone correction" to the throat area of the horn path. Keep on looking at this thread until that subject has been resolved.

I'll attach a quick Hornresp comparison between both boxes with the driver @ Xmax (9mm), and a quick spreadsheet comparison of the external dimensions.

Regards,

Oliver sorry I did not mention that I bought two more of the b&c driver on a good labor day sale and I also read about the cone correction plate that will make the driver preform better and add a few more db to the tapped horn output. I will be watching that thread to see the outcome and hopefully learn somethings about tapped horn. I also know that the lower the tapped horn play the bigger the box get and I am cocomfortable with the 6 fold design.

Thanks Oliver

Hi Nathenry,

"...comfortable with the 6 fold size..."

That should be interesting, and basically you have an almost perfect fit for your driver. I just wanted you to think a little more about the size, extension and SPL tradeoffs. It seems that most people that have looked closely at this have opted for the Xoc1 TH18; lighter weight, greater power handling, higher SPL, but slight loss at the very low end. It is definitely your decision to make, you know your requirements, etc...

One question that I have never gotten a good grip on (maybe the experts can jump in here?) are the tradeoffs between the throat correction as now suggested, the short/small S1 throat as in the Furybox, and an actual, optimized throat chamber with basically S1=S2 transition into the horn (as in the DTS-20) . I'll have to do some more work on this, but that should not slow you down.

The Xoc1 6-Fold w/ a simple throat correction should be your ticket. 🙂

The xoc1 TH18 put out 2.5 db more than the 6 fold from 40Hz up and used less wood to build. The 6fold goes down to 35Hz and is larger than the xoc 1TH18 with less output so I will go with the xoc1 Th18 lighter and louder with little lost in the low end.

Thanks for the eye opener

How does your design compares to the xoc1 th18.
From power handling to the amount of wood to build one.
i wil have to compare them.
one moment..
tbx%20vergelijk.jpg

black is the xco1 th 118 ,grey is my design.
the 118 has the low knee at 50 hz ,mine 40 hz
excursion differs 1mm in favor of the th118.

btw not 100% sure this is the correct sim of the th 118.
