The +16dB gain on your NAD would be a great addition for extreme situations like this. And, if you happen to use an extremely low output moving coil phono cartridge, you will definitely want more system gain. That's why the extra gain is there!
I guess the bottom line is that the volume control on your pre-amp is useful... turn it up or down according to the level on your recordings and you'll be fine. I highly doubt you'll be melting anything on your amps by using it just as it is, in stock form.
Hi Jack,
after a few days of experimenting with a 2024 dodule i can confirm your assumptions. The phono seems to benefit a lot from the preamp gain. Clipping only occurred with CDs using high dinamics (most of them home recording, without decent mastering and compression), but then, just turned down the preamp volume. Very happy with the results.
Thanks for your advice.
Now I'm dealing with another sort of problem: the balance control of the preamp let me realize that my sure 2024 amp has a very bad uneveness in one channel: the heights on the right are dull and damped. I've contacted sure and they asked for a video to understand the problem. Will keep you updated on coming developments.
Switch channels?
You have probably done this already, but have you tried switching channels and also cables to confirm it's the amp a not not something in the pre-amp or cables? If the problem stays in the one channel in the amp, then it's the amp and they should be replacing it!Now I'm dealing with another sort of problem: the balance control of the preamp let me realize that my sure 2024 amp has a very bad uneveness in one channel: the heights on the right are dull and damped...
Hi all i have been useing a 41hz amp 6 basic and i prefered it to the musiacal fidelity dr thomas power amp and pre amp and just wondered are these boards as good as the 41hz kits

Yes, all done. It's defiitively the amp. Will see what Sure will do to solve the problem.
missed your question !Hi all i have been useing a 41hz amp 6 basic and i prefered it to the musiacal fidelity dr thomas power amp and pre amp and just wondered are these boards as good as the 41hz kits
Amp6 is based on TA2020. Nice little chip. There are plenty of TAmps around based on this chip. I own two.
IMHO, shared by many others, TK2050 sounds better than ta2020. It also has looooot more power.
Hi alkasar thanks very much for reply i will order one then. Do you recomend i buy the meanwell power supply or are there any other power supplys you would recomend

I think the answer is that the Connexelectronic SMPS300R is the best SMPS for these amps, but can someone confirm that they can indeed be ordered in 36V configuration?
Connexelectronic
Hi erozsolt thanks for reply but dont this board have a maximum voltage of 31v
You can request configuration from 24V to 72V (single v) or +-30V to +-72V (dual voltage). Then you can adjust +/- 10% of the configured voltage.
I've got 2 of these on order right now for 2 4x100w Sure boards... The size has me Soooooo scheptical tho 100x100x36mm... Really? 😱
Hi all thanks for replys im new to this diy audio and this is geting a bit technical now so what would i need to ask for when ordering the board what voltage. Allso were do you get the power supply from

But does this mean that the closest voltage around 36V is actually 24 V * 1.1 = 26.4 V? Or it is possible to request to any voltage we'd like? So if you want a 36 V model, you just write it in the comment of the order that you request a model with single 36 V? Or 30V, 48V etc.?

That's right. You just specify the required voltage in the comments
Great i understand now is there any avantage of haveing an higer voltage does it give an higher output

In general, the closer you can push it to the max voltage, depending on the difficulty of the load your amp is driving, the lower the distortion and the more power you'll get, but you'll also have more heat to dissipate... I'm not sure If you've mentioned earlier which board you're running.
Hi darpmalone at the moment im useing tannoy dc3000 which i built my self and there easy to drive at 91db so i dont need loads of power. I have not ordered a board yet but i was going to order a T1 board 2x80 watt

Thanks for the reference to this supply. I'm wondering though why this is considered better than the Meanwell? Did I perhaps miss some posts where the two were compared?
Thanks,
Rod

I know I'm getting old, but I guess I'm also getting blind. I just don't see where someone has compared the two power supplies in the previous couple of pages other than erozsolt saying "I think the answer is that the Connexelectronic SMPS300R is the best SMPS for these amps".
Thanks,

There is not that much to say. I don't think anyone did a direct comparison.
Both smps will do the job. Connexelectronic one is much smaller, is more efficient and has an auxiliary power. You can get the Connex at the voltage you want.
I cant think of any other smps giving as much at this price 😀
