The best sounding audio integrated opamps

yup, that's LT1469IN8...it's supposed to be used on DAC outputs anyway.

so far I love it, basically all I wanna hear is the OPA-Earth final buffer...I don't want the op-amps used as AK4396 LPF to add any color whatsoever.

yup, I have high expectations from both 1028ACN8/AD797BN 🙂

well, I don't listen to +100dB anyway...I listen at low volumes on headphones 😉

I've just tried it on lossless binaural movies and many different kinds of music, it does it all...and amazingly well! I don't think I'll ever get bored of its color(unlike the LT1124ACN8)...mostly because it doesn't seem to have one?!

but yeah OK, I'll compare it against the 1028ACN8/797BN whenever I'll get the chance

I don't think that the LT1469 is one noisy opamp.

Well, update...

Firstly I switched digital interconnects: the (short) Blue Jeans optical went to the modified Super Pro, while the Gotham (silver plated) coaxial went to the SVDAC05.

This alone solved the slight tonal imperfection in the Super Pro, and, at the same time, the slight lack of bass dynamics in the SVDAC05. I was happy.

But then I decided to open the Super Pro and see if I couldn't fit that 100uF 16V Rubycon ZLH neatly... well, I managed. Very happy. 🙂

Now, connected the Super Pro again (still with the very nice Blue Jeans optical cable, and the same Sommercable Classique analog interconnects): rather than a greater openness (which the change to the BJ optical had already delivered), what I hear is an even (slightly) more dynamic and solid sound than before. Now I'm greeted with a very analog-feeling, transparent, rich, coherent, wonderful sound. Awesome!

I wonder what the incoming Supra Trico (coax) interconnect + the (still boxed) Audio Quest King Cobra are going to do to an already so beautiful sound.

BTW, while I was doing the surgery on the Super Pro's pcb, I listened to the other DAC (with the Gotham coaxial) and I fell in love with it again. Apparently the SVDAC05 either performs better from the digital coaxial input, or... good synergy with the Gotham. At any rate, the LME49710NA is another excellent (and underrated, lately) opamp, when it's made to work as it can (I'd played around with the bypass caps a while before I got this tonal balance & this smoothness).

Ah, forgot, the Supra Trico has arrived! Incredibly fast. I recommend buying from hificables.co.uk without hesitation. They keep all good stuff, and the service is impeccable. If you need a safe source of quality cables...this is it.

Back to the sound of my DAC... what I hadn't paid attention to yet is the incredible level of detail. I guess it's the 100uF Rubycon ZLH's presence what I'm hearing (exploited by the potential of the LT1028). And it manages not to add that vague unpleasantness of that 33uF AVX tantalum.

The sound is mellow when it's supposed to be (like with Lucinda Williams's voice), and rough and dry when it should be like that (like with Mark Lanegan)... and tonally it's very evocative, with the sounds emerging like colored lights from a deep blackness. wow...I was inspired, wasn't I 😛

It would be fun to come together to compare the different conceptions and pretensions of "perfection" in audio 🙂 I guess we would all think that we're the one who got it right 😛
well, it's quite simple...I want a huuuuuuuuuge and well separated SS(but natural like on the Earth, not LME artificial w/ its bloated/messy SS like every IC I've tried), good low end bass percussion, clear mids and non-whiney trebles. Also a bit tubey, highly detailed but very mellow and chilled out...not sandpaper sounding :gnasher:

so far I love the 1469 going through the Earth, waiting for the new burson and the 1028/979B/228 to show up...but there' no real hurry :cloud9:

I'd really want to try the ADA4627-1 somewhere. I feel it's the only one that could seriously challenge the LT1028.

Probably I'll save up for that PCM1796 Poppulse DAC, and later I'll save up for a pair of ADA4627-1 bought from digikey (it's quite an investment, you know). 😱

shoot some to me

When you guys finally settle on what sounds best to you, would you send me all or some of the opamp rejects. I think I might be able to find something in the reject set that might suit my music, my system, my taste etc etc. I would be will to send on the ones I reject!

I've settled - it's the LT1028. But in the end every particular circuit might have a different "best". In an ideal situation, though, my take is the LT1028.

I'd want to compare it to the new FET-input ADA4627-1...

But sorry, I don't have many spares of the LT1028. I only have a couple more or so, since they've long stopped sending samples to me (why!? 😀).

Hello guys,
I'm a newbe, waiting for this PCM1796 Poppulse DAC that Andrea looks at.

I've followed this really interesting thread and I'm wondering which mods could be easily applied to this DAC.
There are 3 opamps on this board, two 5532 and an unknown one just before audio out.

What do you think about exchanging 5532 by double LT1028 (like those linked by Andrea : Two-2x-Mono-to-Dual-OPAMP-2x-LT1028--%3E-NE5532 )
And what about the third one, another double LT1028? Or Earth, Burson...

Thanks by advance for your advices!

Andrea, while you still have those Earth around.....get a nice USB DAC like the HA27 I showed you(59 EUR), and roll roll roll!!!! you can get KS/ASIO support for it w/ the ploytec drivers, and you could put 2*LT1028ACN8 + 1*Earth.

Earth is really unmatched for SS separation, width...tell me all that you want, but I've tried a truckload of IC's nothing sounds like that as final buffer(they're known to stink on DAC output, though)...IC's simply cannot sound this creamy, it'd be like comparing a $100 bottle of Champagne w/ the cheapest one you could find.

It's like SS to tube, like audio cassette to CD...R E A L L Y!

I wonder why majkel thought LT1028/AD797B would sound miles better than Earth...prolly because he used a design that's not compatible in the first place. or maybe he's got some grief towards Kingwa, but you simply CANNOT get this SS richness w/ a cheapo IC.

if burson got famous all over the internet w/ those chips, there's a VERY good reason :headshot:
And what about the third one, another double LT1028? Or Earth, Burson...

Thanks by advance for your advices!
hehe, take your responsibilities 😀

get a whole bunch of samples, and roll!!! :spin:

we don't know how this design works, nor do we have your ears..
