I'm no x-over expert, that's for sure, but here's a pair speakers that I'll drive active:

And here is the active amp to drive them:

A project of this scope might not be the level of DIY you are looking for, but can give an idea.
There are ready made active crossovers that you can buy (Behringer).
well i went ahead and put in 1 last offer for the pmc ib1-black ash,and a pair of 20'' Sound Anchor's,and got them,in the mean time i will work on project X.
thanks John

Yes the D27TG 35 and D75MX but I believe its discontinued.Lindell said:FIY
PMC IB1 have no ATC mid or ScanSpeak tweeter. It uses;
Vifa/Peerless Tweeter DX25TG (I think was 27TG before) and
Vifa Midrange D75MX
I believe the flat diaphram woofer was sourced from Prescion Power the car audio company. The bass driver I don't know about.
The active (and passive) versions have LR4 xovers at 380 and 3.8k.
i am going to try a MB-2 clone, bryston makes a modified x-over for them, now the mid and high is a modified volt mid i think i was told, and the tweeter????????i like the ib1 but need more(just a little)so a mb2 would be perfect,if anyone has any info or could help would be appreciated....
i can try a atc andss9700 as fill ins????
thanks f1,enjoy the crown?

John that is one impressive driver lineup. Also I think you will need two Bryston 10 LR's for a three way active set up.....i think i will go with the modified Bryston 10b/LR x-over.

i found some simular threads,no one used the ss9700 ,
the ib1 is a great speaker,i just think i can create a better one with good(top notch)parts,and maybe a little more headroom(spl)
i think Chris at Solen ordered me 8ohm volt-3143,i think i need 4ohm,anyone succeeded in a project like this one???
merry X-MAS

hi guys, merry x-mas and happy new year to all...
i finished cleaning my shed(24x30)(well not with the wifes car in it)and 6 sheets of 1" MDF should arrive today,i shall purchase 2 sheets of 1/2" also for my 1.5"thickness.
i have a chance to purchase a new Bryston 10b LR for a resonable cost(although still alot,$1600)and can custom any points i want,2-way stereo(need 2 units for 3-way)...so i will have to build a x-over for the ss-9700 and ATC 75/150(non s),i cannot find that anyone has attempted this combination..
take care all talk to u in the new year

hi guys, today some of my gear arrived,SS-9700,ATC-75/150,Volt 3143...
the atc's are very impressive just holding them, can't wait to hear them...
the volts seemed like they might be light up against the atc,
the cabinets are ready for glue and a couple of coats of varithane inside to seal them..the dampening foam i ordered is more like the material used inside of a roadcase, has anyone used this material?? i was expecting something more dense.
has anyone tried gluing ice and water shield(used on roofs(not the paper felt))to some walls???
thanks john

Hi John,
I'm envious of your drivers - all very nice units.

Ice and water shield: This is really an effective damping material, and it wouldn't hurt to use it inside your cabinet.
I had thought about a similar product to ice and water shield - Blueskin. It's the same rubberized asphalt but it doesn't have the pebbles on it's surface. It has a tough plastic layer instead. It's used in commercial building as an air barrier/vapor barrier.
It would probably be the most effective sandwiched between two layers of MDF, plywood, etc as constrained layer damping.
well have sold my ib1's and have 4 Volt 3143 coming, already have 2 atc 75/150 and 2 ss 9700. i will use these in my main lr ..
anyone have any thoughts on a good TL design for 2 12's ?
thanks John

PMC IB1 have no ATC mid or ScanSpeak tweeter. It uses;
Vifa/Peerless Tweeter DX25TG (I think was 27TG before) and
Vifa Midrange D75MX
These drivers are ALOT cheaper than the ones you mentioned.
The bass driver I don't know about. Try the Tang-Band WT-1427B
Seriously?? The IB1 uses a $25 tweeter ?
The Madisound Speaker Store
The mid, if i got it right (lots of models with similar names out there...), costs in the region of 100$.
Scanspeak D7608/920010 Mid Range - Vifa D75MX-41/08 replacement
The woofer, that fancy flat piston woofer, i bet costs a lot more than the two above put together.
But that leaves a lot of room before we reach the retail price of what? 7000$ ?

I haven't found the flat piston yet but it seems the MB1 & BB5 use Volt woofers (R or RV range) :
