Details and Instructions


This is the home of the group buy for the Sjöström SMD Industrial Gainclone PCB boards as discussed in the thread below. All specifications can be found in the first post.

Please, sign up if you feel this would be intersting. I give no garantees that this design is substantially better than my QRP01 or Peter Daniel's and BrianGT's project. This SMD project is only different and an another side of the coin. I'll hope though that I can create an industrial and high technological design using only "normal" parts. I'm very convinced already that this will be a successful project with interesting performance within the limitis for LM3886 and AD8620. The pcb's will be of "high-end" quality meaning that my pcb manufacturer delivers pcb's to two high-end companies... don't say which... This means only that the pcb's have high normal industrial quality, nothing more really.

This project is suitable for a newbeginner ONLY if you are handy with the soldering iron AND have the right tools. If you have a soldering iron with small tip and a good pair of tweezers it shouldn't be be a problem. I'm going to write down good tips about soldering and mounting parts. This isn't obvious for a newbeginner.

Prototype status


2004-10-15 With MUR3020 diodes, 2 x 4700 uF heavy duty caps ELNA LPJ3, 200 VA, 2 x 24 VAC, buffer AD8620, otherwise according to the original design, this amp really sings. Reptile fast deep bass, snappy, firm, dry, warmth in the mids, razorsharp treble, very good "S"-sounds, simply a crystal clear sound.

Need I say that the amp has a silent turn-on and an equally silent turn-off?

Two more prototypes exist and the performance according to the builders is outstanding for being a Gainclone and pretty (more like very) good to an amp in general.

So far the prototypes work well and have not shown any bugs.

At the moment 6 stereo amplifiers work and all builders except maybe for one are very satisfied. He made a "Carlos modification" and then got satisfied.
