Dayton BR-1

This is an excellent beginner kit; a lot of people start here. Of course, people say "it sounds like something that costs much more!" so much it makes you wonder, but these really do sound quite nice.
The kit itself is quite simple; it comes with two completed cabinets of dyed black MDF (5/8" sides), Dayton drivers, all the crossover parts, and a rather comprehensive instruction book. All you need to do is solder the crossover components together (which isn't hard) and put it all into the box. The instructions not only go step-by-step with pictures outlining everything you need to do (with pictures), but it also explains some of the theory behind it, which is grand. A very good introduction, IMO. The whole process takes a couple hours, if I recall.
Of course, you can get the same introduction browsing these forums for a while, but this lets you get hands-on, and you get a pair of speakers out of the deal.
Here's a link to the kit at Parts Express: https://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Product_ID=16226 . If that link goes bad (likely), just search for BR-1 on PartsExpress?.com
Do a search on the diyAudio forums, Parts Express forums, or AudioCircle? or AudioAsylum? (to name a few) for more reviews and opinions.
