15" Sonosub Kit UK Group Buy
Background
A sonosub is a subwoofer made from sonotube which is a cardboard tube used to form concrete columns. I'll leave it to you to discover the many DIY examples documented on the web.
Sonotube is not available cheaply in the UK. When I wanted to build a few I ended up buying 8x 2m custom cardboard tubes. The main motivation for this group buy is to help me get rid of those cardboard tubes!
I know where to get all the parts from, and I've prototyped it so I'm confident of the design.
The new Reckhorn A-400 sub amp
[1] makes passive DIY subs more attractive now, compared to having to build in a plate amp or finding some other solution.
Why would you want to build/buy one? Because it's probably the best looking solution for eg 220 litres tuned down to 16Hz or so.
How the GB will work
The idea is that a number of people (3 to 7) can specify what bits of the kit they want to buy (as opposed to make/source themselves) and then at a given point I will take deposits and order the parts. The plan is to get plugs and caps CNC'd locally which is quite expensive, or you can make your own.
I will also offer to do partial assembly where that makes sense, eg although I successfully glued my first port into the top plug without any problem I can picture someone making a mess of it.
This group buy could extend into a 15" driver buy as well, depending on what people want to do.
