This Wiki will describe successful modifications of the great TwistedPeer? Buffalo DAC. 1. Powersupply Battery supply with two seperate batteries will improve performance. If you have a single 12V SLA at hand just connect it right after the rectifier. Best is if you leave that Buffalo PS out and run the DAC from slightly buffered 6V batteries, Paul Hynes shunt regs or Teddy regs will also deliver improvements if you don't want to go for batteries. Powerconsumption analog: ??V ???A digital: ??V ???A 2. Onboard Regulation Can be improved by high quality regs. 3. Part replacements Caps: As usual BG type caps will deliver better sound - especially on the analog side. 4. Output Stage IVY: 3rd Party: -A pure class A output stage (e.g. Zapfilter) will improve the performance -[SuperTeddyReg] +15V and -15V. Clear improvement: sound more analog-like and lower noise. Assembly: bypass the 317 regs of the LCBPS, and feed the [SuperTeddyReg] from it. It can be screwed (by a TO220 hole) on the top of LCBPS mounting spacers (but with insulated material to avoid contact to chassis). 5. Best settings Jumper: Input signal: I2S: The DAC sounds best when fed clean I2S (64FS required!!!) Q: 96k better then 44.1? 6. Clock |
