Why would lowering volume decrease sound quality?

bbest, with a 24 bit volume control and correct dither you need not worry about reduced quality until you are beyond -20db attenuation. With modern software replay applications it's not an issue.

As in way beyond. Starting at 24 bit, and applying no dither, you still have 16 bits (96 dB) of dynamic range left even at -48 dB attenuation. Add dither, and you have much more.

bbest,

A stereo build with a passive attenuator in front of the amp modules should work too.
The question whether one prefers to mess around in the digital or in the analog domain. Personally I still believe more in high quality active preamplification

Hi guys,

All of a sudden one of my nCore modules is producing pink noise, even when volume is idle or muted. I tried the other 4 modules, trial and error, but no problem. Just this one. Any ideas?

Thanx

Keeping these blighters cool is a problem. Not as good as other class D amps. The iron ware could be better quality in the choke.

May be active preamplification will be best choise. Something like this Vorführverstärker - Seite 2 - DIY-HIFI-Forum. But I don't know where to buy this preamplify :-)

Depends - do you need active amplification and the functionality a preamp provides?

A few users have reported heat issues, but most people have reported their ncores running cool. Have you checked that your ones don't oscillate?
