AX84 +1: Very apropos for the type of thing you are trying to do and very helpful guys there.

Duncan Amps PSD: +1. If you have a Windoze machine or Linux with wine get it as it is very instructive.

And a tip that I learned in building a guitar amp for my grandson. A 12AY7 in the first gain stage instead of a 12AX7 eliminated troubling microphonics instantly.

You are in for a great deal of fun and probably a bit of head scratching from time to time. Great experience.
