I don't like motor potentiometers, especially if there are cheap and small attenuators but big motors.
But big blue alps like ebay item No 350430125063 or Alps Motorpotentiometer - hifituning24.de only a bit better. The VolControl, Volume/attenuator control board (Number 3)
about http://electronics.dantimax.dk/Kits/...rds/index.html and TentLabs Volume control (Number 5) about Volume control must be in category B, because there are no potentiometer is in use; the device looks like a pot is an encoder (double rotary switch) http://www.soselectronic.com/a_info/...dery/70226.jpg http://docs-europe.electrocomponents...6b8012457e.pdf Alps | Passive Bauelemente | Widerstände | Trimmer, Potentiometer und Rheostate | Encoder |EC11B152420G OMRON G6K SMD-Relais http://www.fa.omron.co.jp/product/fa...7/index_p.html http://www.datasheetarchive.com/G6K-2F-Y-datasheet.html http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/s...hTerm=365-0377 http://de.rs-online.com/web/search/s...duct&R=3650377 Last edited by tiefbassuebertr; 21st March 2011 at 10:31 PM. |

Hello
this thing could be interesting to control a motorized potentiometer as ALPS or Panasonic Infrared Remote Decoder Module Power/Volume/light Contr | eBay But I have difficulties to see how to use it to control a motor, any idea ? Pascal |

Just connect 3 to 8 line decoder. The output will appear on one of the pins. Connect a reversible motor driver IC. For reverse direction, some other pin will go high.

I bought this one off eBay and it's junk: ALPS IR Remote Volume Control DIY Kit (100K)_Volume Control_Accessories Kit_Analog Metric Limited - DIY Audio Kit
The H-bridge is awful, it crowbars the rails until the MCU boots. The transistors are not saturated and the motor gets about 3.5V so it's ssslow. I'm building a relay-based log attenuator with IR remote, as everything is multi-channel now. |

Very interesting, also the other devices - thank you therefore.

I think I found the easy solution. With this module L298N Dual Stepper Motor Driver Controller Board Module en vente sur eBay.fr (fin le 12-août-11 18:36:05 Paris) we can control motor rotary in both directions. If I don't make mistake We have just to join : D0 (PIN6) of IR controller to IN1 (PIN5) of Motor Controller D1 (PIN5) of IR controller to IN2 (PIN7) of Motor Controller ACT (PIN3) of IR controller to ENA (PIN6) of Motor Controller Motor B+ PSU to VIN (PIN4) 5V PSU to +5V (PIN1) of IR controller and to +5V (PIN9) of Motor Controller Ground to GND (PIN8) of IR controller and to GND (PIN8) of Motor Controller Ground of 5V PSU and Ground of Motor B+ PSU If we push on ">> Up" on remote control we have D0=5V, D1=0V and the polarity to have a rotation of the volume pot in direction to up volume If we push on "<< Down" on remote control we have D0=0V, D1=5V and the polarity to have a rotation of the volume pot in direction to down volume I have IR controller and Remote control, I will order Motor controller to finalise my project Cordially Pascal |

The alps pot requires 5V and about 200 mA to run. It is best driven from two small change-over relays because if driving transistors are not driven to saturation the volt-drop is large and the motor will turn very slowly.
It is simple and cheap to do if you already have a remote controller with two outputs UP and DOWN |
