I plugged it in to the power supply and flipped the switch, and that's when it got interesting. I don't wish to take my curiosity for diy amps any further.

yes, it's an unauthorized copy, i didn't know it at the time i purchased the kit.

so ... how is this bad? looks like fun to me. we have an annual event here in california called "burning amp".
something was definitely not right. this is one place where you might get help. |

That's quite impressive!
Looks like you let ALL the smoke out the 180 ohm resistor. I'd guess the Vbe multiplier was wired up wrong. If it's just adjusted badly, you "only" blow up the output transistors. Now clean it up and start over.

Do not ever! Start a new Amp without safety Resistors!
