They look great! Can you share any more details (without giving away trade secrets):

1. How wide is ribbon?
2. How thin is ribbon?
3. Neodymium magnets?
4. Field strength?
5. Is it one ribbon or is it segmented to prevent excessive motion caused by base frequencies (e.g. from subwoofer)?
6. Direct drive or do you have a transformer?
7. When did you build them?
8. Efficiency? Your charts seem to imply 90db (per watt?)
9. Power handling/ Max SPL?
10. Are these a commercial product? (Price?)

Once again - they are very impressive!

The table below shows the cm^3 volume displacement required to produce a 110 db SPL at various frequencies for a monopole and dipole with 20" wide baffle. No single ribbon described in the literature can mechanically achieve this, or keep Doppler IM distortion under control over even a fraction of this range. A 2-way linesource seems like the minimal full range option for <110 db SPLs @1m, 85db at listener. A 3-way line source seems like the minimal full range option that can deliver >110 db SPLs @1m with a few % Doppler distortion.

SPL = 110 @ 1m
Effective path difference D =508

Vp = Sd Xmax

Thanks!

1. How wide is ribbon?
17mm

2. How thin is ribbon?
0,005mm

3. Neodymium magnets?
yes

4. Field strength?
I didn't measure

5. Is it one ribbon or is it segmented to prevent excessive motion caused by base frequencies (e.g. from subwoofer)?
One 2m ribbon

6. Direct drive or do you have a transformer?
Direct drive

7. When did you build them?
Before 5-6 years

8. Efficiency? Your charts seem to imply 90db (per watt?)
I didn't calibrate my measuring system so I don't know.
The amplifier on the photo is my work too, A-class 2x6W RMS with 400W input, and it is loud enough.

9. Power handling/ Max SPL?
For a ribbon speakers is fanny to talk about that.
It can play loud more than I need, quality and emotions that I get are main things for me.

10. Are these a commercial product? (Price?)
I plan to offer this speakers in the future, I have more ideas for improvements so first that.

11. Doppler distortion?
Doppler effect is something that I want, people don't understand this very important thing.

What is the resistance/impedance of the ribbon??

0.5 ohm ribbon

6 ohm speaker system

Someone is being silly?

I highly doubt the veracity of the published frequency response curve is possible with just that little thin ribbon as the radiating element. OR, if it does then the max SPL possible has to be scary low.

The thickness spec'd in the post is ~10x the usual thickness for a tweeter, btw...

What is between the .5 ohm ribbon and the output of your amplifier?
Please sorry, I can't tell you now.

My dear Bear...

Maybe for you will be scary low but for me is big enough.

You mean 0.0005mm. I want to see 2m ribbon with 0.0005mm thickness :D
What you want to say, you doubt in high freq. response of my speakers too?

So, then it isn't really "direct drive"??

I believe that the spec'd thickness of the Winey patent is 0.0005"
not mm... perhaps we have a metric vs. English units misunderstanding? I have no idea how thick 0.005mm is... hee hee...

But even so, you can't be getting much more than something on the order of ~80dB/1w/1m from them, right? Not with that bandwidth... and at around 90dB they'll try to rip themselves apart, no?

Tomislav you have a very beautiful design, how do you get such impressive low frequency output from your ribbons?
Thank you, with big low resonance ribbon and big panels.

So, then it isn't really "direct drive"??
I don't use transformer.

NO :whazzat:
My ribbon drivers are very efficiency and they can be very loud on freq. above 100Hz.
Sorry, I don't know in numbers.

From my spreadsheets....some rough estimates and guesses....

A 2m x 17mm x 5 micron pure aluminum ribbon is 340.6 cm^2 area, 0.62 ohms, capable of 82db SPL @1m at 40Hz with +/- 4mm of excursion (+/- 0.16") on a 24" wide dipole baffle. Music has large peaks >10 db typical, and >20db for techno or 1812 overture type stuff, so the average listening level will be closer to 70db SPL @ 1m at 40hz

The 6 ohm impedance discussed could come from putting a 5.4 ohm resistor in series to make the load more amplifier friendly, or a series RLC equalization network that compensates for the dipole baffle width roll off

Yes, you are right, maybe I have 6-7 micron alu. ribbon, it is difficult to measure.

Yes, my speakers works best with Jazz music, I can't listen loud a records with large low freq.
Maybe before I offer my speakers I will must put sub for freq. below 100Hz.
But I'm not sure which kind of sub system.
