my temporary setup with a BBB

My temporary setup with the AKL-S03b with BeagleBone Black. I have re-purposed a OTTO-II as a u.fl converter while waiting for my custom u.fl board. DAC board is DIYINHK AK4490. No DSD output, that is waiting for the supercape to be finished.

Very nice there. I wonder the connector under P9, is for what purpose?
Your BBB adaptor does not seem from Acko, any detail is appreciated.

Amanero Issues

Hi to all and I am sorry for my "poor" english...

I have a concern if the Amanero plays well with the S03. I see that there are many issues! It seems that the fw of amanero doesn't work well at any circumstances.

I have some FFT captures, specially jitter and thd measures with 3 fw setup:
CPLD_1080,
Slave_for_1080,
Slave_1095_div2.

The measuring jitter and the thd is the total amanero+S03+9023 based dac.
The Amanero was directly joined with S03, the S03 to dac by u.fl cables.
At the S03 board have bypassed all the dividers (X2/X4)
Prescaler Setup where required by fw.

From what I saw, the jitter at the two slave fw modes is significant bigger than the normal 1080 fw. The noise floor at the Slave_1095 is the best btw them.
The same results are seems and at the THD measures. The low noise floor has demonstrated with the Slave_1095 fw, but the pattern isn't well.

Also, I saw that the mclk at the two slave fw modes change the frequency btw 45+/49+ clocks normally, in opposite at the CPLD_1080 that only the 45+ clock works at all sampling frequencies (see the captures, the first is on amanero clck, the second at the S03 turbo mckl u.fl - the oscilloscope capturing was at the 100MHz)

I will appreciate too much, if there is any suggestion about these or any different measuring procedure.

Thanks, the connector next to P9 is actually the serial connector (J1) connected to a serial to USB cable. This way I can see the console messages while booting the BBB and interact if necessary.

The BBB adapter is actually from Acko (BBB-UFL) maybe it's just another/newer version.

Here is another setup test.

The master clock pin has removed from amanero interface.
Now the amanero generates well with the own clocks (24+/25+)the frequencies, but the master clock doesn't carried to S03.

The i2s bus connection btw S03 and 9023 based dac done with all u.fl and turbo master clock (45+ clock) as Async mode.

Now, the thd measuring test is better but the noise floor isn't at level of Slave_1095.

So the question begs. What does the little chip do? :)

It is to address an issue that you reported some time back :)

Acko and all,

Something to be aware of with regards to the supercape development.

There seems to be a a known issue with different revisions of the BBB with regards to the powering down of VDD_3V3EXP, with a battery connected. Some boards seem to do this others don’t. Mine doesn’t. This means that with a battery connected to the BBB, pin P9_3/4, VDD3V3EXP doesn’t power down.

Exert I found on the web:

I'm investigating a proper shutdown and power-off if the main 5V is removed. I have a Li-Ion battery connected to keep everything running until a proper shutdown/power-off can occur.
Using the method in "Re: [beagleboard] Chip power down and PMIC_POWER_EN" while in Uboot, I can see that the A5C shuts everything down including the VDD_3V3B supply (see schematic). The A6 does not.

Now if there is no battery connected, they both power-off

Acko,
in your opinion, what is the best regulator for providing the 3.3v to the clocks on the S03?
I see you have 2 regulators in your web store: the AKR75 based on the ADM715x and the AKR47 based on the TPS7A47. Is there much difference between these? Also, can the output voltages be easily changed afterwards with these regulators?

thanks,
James

Very cool!! (How) Does it work? I'd be happy to test one for you. ;)

Chip detects BBB boot before enabling external pwr to S03. I haven't seen this battery issue with my samples of BBB (both A5 and A6 rev) but anyway added as a precaution based on your report.

Pls wait for a while - the next version has DSD support added and basic power monitoring/shutdown functions. I will be getting the boards for test sometime next week and if all goes well this could be a simpler solution than a full blown SuperCape

Acko, that sounds very interesting; I would prefer that type of solution to a Supercape.

BTW, did you see my suggestion in my last post on the 'Slice' thread?

Ray
