Knullruffs - the problem with single subs: harmonics. No matter how strict the Xover, the driver itself produces harmonics way up into midrange. You need to put your sub right in the middle between the sats or your bass will jump all over the place.
So, OK - make silk stockings out of a sow´s ears. You need stands for your sats anyway, so why not have the stands contain a bass driver each? Instead of having to find three perfect locations for your boxes you only need two. DIY rulez!:D

Well, that looks good to be honest.
But, with side-fireing subs isn't it hard to place them in a room?
One of them will stand next to an open door (left speaker) and the right one will stand in a corner. And in between those are a drawer (http://www.ikea.com/se/sv/catalog/products/20062596)
My room is far from perfect. And i can have them too far from the wall either. The front of the speaker can be around 60-70cm from the wall.
