Finally, an affordable CD Transport: the Shigaclone story

I installed an awslr tonight in my second shiga. I think theres an improvement - maybe slightly more resolution and separation. Its not huge mind you......

Fran

Hello Fran did you use also the caps before and after the awslr like BMW850?
and also separate transformer for the 5 volt .
I will try the awslr tomorrow.
Can you give me some more info how you do it?

Hello Fran,

Every little bit helps to improve the Shigaclone.
I have first a 1000uF FK Black gate then ALWSR then 1000uF STD Black gate.
You also have a Trichord Clock 4 to try, you will be amazed?

Regards,
Rudy

Hi Rudy,

Did you experiment with a Blackgate "Afterwards" since ALWSR themselves advices to use no caps at all afterwards...
(ALWSR Manual 3.0 WARNING AND CAUTIONS...THEY TALK ABOUT INSTABILITY)

The 8V and 5V regulators came in 2 days ago....so...:devily:

BTW
I see you using a puck...how did the puck-story end ???

Hi Fran,

Peter is right, you should try AWSLR 5V regulator without any pre-regulation.

Regards,
Rudy

Is that not depending on what configuration you use on the ALWSR board.?
Rudy do you use tracking pre regulation on the ALWSR board or not...;)

I do not think it is wise to use no pre regulation at all (see also their manual) in this case.

No, after de diodes comes the 5 volt ALWSR.

I do not think it is wise to use no pre regulation at all (see also their manual) in this case.

Only before the Trichord Clock 4, I have pre regulation because “somebody” tell me that, because it was a improvement in the sound.
I know, I can also listen myself first, but that person knows what he is doing.

The only reason why I did that was because this configuration was a good configuration, Peter did this on this way. (2200uF FK BG/LM7808/1000uF STD BG)
I leave the good configuration so it is (only I use 1000uF FK) with the LM7808 in place for the 2 motor.
I changes for example a LM7805 for a ALWSR and I let this configuration so it is.

The company has the order we are still waiting when it finished.
And the puck you see I make it myself, I have a 60mm round delrin stick and boor a hole in it, dismantled the standard puck I remove the magnet and only use the plastic underside put this in the delrin puck with a little glue on it ;)

Rudy

Fellas, I';m confused....

So, the story here is that we can do a few different things with PS:

Feed the whole thing with the C-7808-C

Feed motors with 7808 reg, separate super reg for 5V, taken from ??right after diodes or first cap??

2 x super regs, one for motors (8v) one for 5V...

So what again have you all done?

Personally, I changed to a CRC feeding alwsr outputting 8V to whole shiga, no 5v. There is a small improvement.... but it is there.

You take 3 external transformers:

OPEN-FRAME TRANSFORMER 100VA 2 x 9V 5 volts for the Shigaclone board
OPEN-FRAME TRANSFORMER 100VA 2 x 12V 8 volts for the trichord clock 4

OPEN-FRAME TRANSFORMER 100VA 2 x 12V 8 volts for the 2 engines
I leave the good configuration so it is (only I use 1000uF FK) with the LM7808 in place for the 2 motor.

1 ALWSR+ B&T ALWSR +5v Built & Tested Regulator - Shigaclone Board
1 ALWSR+ B&T ALWSR +8v Built & Tested Regulator - Trichord clock 4

Rudy

Hi Erik,

Tell us EXACTLY how you've done the 3 power supply's with your Cd transport the Pitbull.

  1. motor
  2. 5 volt Shiga board
  3. Trichord Clock 4 not the new one with the never connected power supply
Please don't tell us, you don't know anymore ;)

Fran,
This is the way I have done it, you have everything open now, you can changes it the way it sounds the best, and let us know what the best choice is for you.

Regards,
Rudy
Edit: it is nice wether here, now i go sitting by the water ;)

Hahaha, I do not....I'll ask Anton....if he wants to reveal his ALWSR mods :)

I can only tell you what I am doing/trying out at the moment in the
Mini -PiTbull situation on my own.....in which I will stick to the ALWSR-manual just to be safe.....:D
