Hi Ian,
no U.FL. connector for I2S input?

Of course it has .

The U.FL I2S sockets are optional and mounted at bottom side of PCB.

But for input, both PH2.0 cable and u.fl cables are good choices.

I'm having trouble playing higher than 96K files with my system:

PC->WaveIO->Ian's I2S to PCM converter->PCM1704 DAC.

I have soldered Ian's board output directly to the input pins of the 1704.

When I play 176.4K or 192K I get basically noise with just a little music in the background. 96K and lower play fine.

Any ideas of what might be the problem?

Ian suggested the clocks on the Wave (22.xxx/24.xxx) may be a little on the slow side for the higher sampling rates, can anyone confirm this?

IMO you have some serious signal integrity issues - it's a miracle it works at all.

The re-clock FF on the I2S to PCM board is fast (maybe too fast?) - Potato logic - it has very fast rise times and this seems to require great care. I would even use the PH2.0 output only for testing and change to u-fl for the final setup.

As a last try - before making a small adapter board - I would try to run ground wires twisted near all lines not only the data line.

If you seriously want to use this PCM1704 evaluation board I would make a small adapter in your place - something similar to the attached sketch (excuse my Paint skills)

edit: same issue between WaveIO-I2S-to-PCM (good question how to connect them correctly) maybe remove the 7pin PH2.0 from the converter input and try solder u-fl connectors
