Please see post #5 in this thread for details of meet.

The List (updated 12/17/10)

1. Rick (ripcard)---Bringing CSS Quartet 15 Sub-woofer, DSPeaker Anti-Mode 8033 (EQ for subs) and home built 8" Vifa two-way vented speakers of unknown origin for evaluation.
Would like to measure sub-woofer.

2. ? (gabdx)---I will demo a tda1541 dac from analogmetric, I will need a transport/amp/ speakers for that.

3. Mark (mwmkravchenko)---CBT line array with integrated dual 8" front loaded horn. 4, count them 4 subwoofers. All with the same driver complement (2 pcs Exodus Audio Anarchy 6 1/2").Front loaded, Tapped Horn, Vented, and Unhorn. You guys get to listen to them all and judge for yourselves what is what.

4. Pierre (PierreQuiRoule)---Will bring amps this time. What types will be a surprise. I'll pass on measurements this time. I rather get in the mood for listening and enjoying good company .

5. Dave (DDF)---Look for the guy with bells on. Demo: passive pre-amp (a bit different than the usual) if there's time. A simple 2 way, if there's time. Mark and I have been discussing speaker measurement gear off-line.

6. Tony (Tony D)---I would like to attend also, $10 isn't a problem unfortunately I don't have anything to demo yet. Sorry guys.

7. Normand (normand)I am new to this group but very curious about what is going on. I would like very much to attend.

8. John (bearberry)---I hope to have ready some small speakers for use with a PC: Nano Neos, New Horizons, Zaph's project 18, and MicroFonken. Would like to make it for measurement session Saturday. And would like to hear any <$150 USB DACs anyone might have.

9. Ron (ronu9400)---I plan to be there, and my son might also attend. Shared the link with a couple of audio buddies, so perhaps they'll join us. I'm not likely bringing any equipment this time.

DDF Dave? I'll revise the details post when we sort out the Instruction portion of the event. Looks to me like Saturday will be needed for the measuring if we want to get some time for Instruction and still leave a nice block of time for just relaxing and listening. Should we go with a two day event?

That's exactly what is going to happen if we have enough guys.

We can measure and talk about what is what in terms of design on Saturday. When Owen comes up with what he wants to discuss we will have a time frame work to play with.

Testing loudspeakers and discussing what is being measured and how it gets effected goes hand in hand with each other.

The sub-woofer shoot out also goes hand in hand with a discussion on box design and types of driver enclosure loading and their effects on the sound.
For the first time in my life I will have all the major types of box configurations available at once. Believe me this will be a treat for me to!

BRING YOUR FAVORITE TUNES!!!!

Nothing beats listening to stuff you know well.

I have plenty of shake the rafters and kill small rodents stuff. But bring what you like best.

John,
Between Mark and I we have two measurement set ups at our disposal, so I'm sure we could cover as much ground as needed if Saturday is available.

I'm personally interested in measuring the raw ND-105s in the Neos or New Horizons (and hearing the Neos). I'm considering the ND-105 for a tiny sealed design, so there's incentive afoot for measuring all your kit.

Dave

Can anyone bring a projector that plugs into a PC?

I second the request for a projector.

It would help out for my presentation to.

No chalk board in the Community Centre.

For what is happening on Saturday.

If we have between four and six systems that will be enough to listen to a bit and test. Subs we can do quite easily.

Speakers can be done with a little more time and effort.

During speaker testing it may be possible to integrate Dave's presentation.

During the Subwoofer testing it may be possible to integrate the sub-woofer presentation.

Just thinking out loud.

Some sort of schedule should be made up when we know what we are up against.

OWEN! Are you still in and around Ottawa?

What do you want to present? And or bring? Your line sources were awesome last time.

A while back you asked for assistance for testing your subs. I found an old audio magazine in which a panel was asked to rate 5 different speakers. If you like, we could use a similar methodology to rate your four subs. Next time we meet we can discuss criteria they used, etc. My only criticism of their approach is that they did not normalize the scores. But this is very easy to fix. I can show you how or do it for you if you like.

For planning purposes, we will need some means of adjusting the four subs to exactly the same SPL. Level matching is critical - as you know.

Default measurements

Dave, I'm just getting a measurement set-up in place, so I'll try to test the ND105s on my own, then see what you more experienced guys get from them. This is going to be a good learning experience.

Sounds like a plan Pierre.

John it will be a treat to measure your stuff and compare.

Build on the subs is beginning. Many things have gotten in the way. But I'll be starting today.

Hi All,
I just found out about the January Meet. I've been more focused on the Headphone Amp and DAC side of things, but there are a few things I can bring (AMB Gamma 2 DAC, Headphonia CableDac, Cavalli CTH head amp, CK2III Head amp and a Panda Class A head amp (if I get the last two built over the christmas break), Senn HD580, AKG K601, and maybe a Salas DCB1. Unless someone has already identified a projector, I have one that I can bring, as long as my son isn't planning on using it..
