For that location, I'd suggest the KSC2690A.
The reason that you need to state the application is that some transistors must be able to withstand high voltage or high current and the application (type of use in the amp) is required to make suggestions.
I suggest including links to datasheets because some people only have a few minutes to help and won't have time to look up datasheets but will compare components if they only have to click on a couple of links.
Did the transistor read as defective out of the circuit?

I think making the clips would be difficult because it would require critical heat treating and possibly a special alloy. The following clips are the type used in most of the hifonics amps.
