Built the Bugle 2 to replace my Boozehound J-fet riaa. I had som headache trying to sort out a mistake I made, mixing up som resistors, but it works! And it sings beautifully

I do rank the Boozehound above this one, but the Bugle 2 most assuredly kicks the Gram Amp 2 SE's butt, bigtime.

My first completed build. I used an Alps in a box for this one before I finished my awesome B1.

It's a tight fit, and I get some noise from the toroid, but it's hardly audible and not at all when the music is playing.

Takman Resistors, Toroidy transformer, DH Labs and Kimber hookup, Connex RCA's. Its not the most powerfull amp, but it drives my PSB Image B6 just fine and then some. The most awesome sound I have ever had in my own house, and I actually don't miss a thing. I would put it in a bigger chassis and perhaps get some copper to further shield the toroid instead of building another amp.

But I have pcb's for a Zen v9, so that's it

Boozehound Labs MM Phonostage

Posted 19th January 2013 at 06:06 PM by MagnumOpus

I needed a decent RIAA, and have found that I really like the sound of J-Fets. Maybe its purely metaphysical, maybe not. Still I am thrilled with the sound of of this thing. It it buildt with the kit from Boozehound Labs ebay listing.

At first I thought it sounded somewhat "too fast", too dynamic, too..."bouncy"..but when settled in..I am just flabbergasted by how sweet sound so little money can buy.

The only thing is the power supply. I have tried to different wallwarts, both incredibly noisy, and both switchmode, allthough my latest is regulated it still produce a lot of noise. So, I am building a Sigma 11 to power this thing, I'll have to live with the noice for now, it will only be for a couple of months anyway.

Pictures to come when I remove it from my setup to take som gut-pictures .
